Erie PA News and Events for Saturday October 22, 2005
City of Erie Police expect to file charges next week against a long time employee of the traffic court department. Your average lemonade stand has better cash controls than anything at city hall. If you received a parking ticket in the city in the past few years and you included cash in the return envelope, there is a strong likelihood your money ended up in the suspected employees pocket.
The Broken Arrow Animal Sanctuary is holding a fundraiser by collecting old newspapers and phonebooks. Email them at brokenarrowanimalsanctuary@yahoo.com for collection points, to make a donation or to adopt a pet.
The Asian beetle that kills ash trees could be entering Erie County in the next few years. Not good. The beetle is concentrated in Michigan, northern Ohio and Indiana, and southern Ontario. Nearly 10 percent of Pennsylvania forests are ash trees. Researchers and scientists say there’s currently no way to stop the beetle.
You are entitled to three free credit reports a year. I attended a seminar and it was recommended that you request a free report from each agency at a different time. For example: one in April, one in August and one in December. You will then have a rolling view of your credit. Here is a list of the agencies and their numbers: Equifax 800-685-1111, Experian 800-397-3742 and TransUnion 800-916-8800.

Here in Michigan (as you stated) the problem of the Asian beetle that is killing Ash trees is huge. Every time I return home to Erie I see signs while leaving Michigan into Ohio stating that transportation of firewood is not permitted. They're trying to stop the spread of the beetles with very little success.
Detroit News has more information on the pest; http://www.detnews.com/2005/metro/0510/22/metro-357076.htm

Police Chief Chuck Bowers was on television saying maybe all the money that has been stolen could have paid the salaries of some of the police officers who were laid off.
Maybe a bigger question for Chief Bowers is where were the police while all of this was going on? This thief was working 'right down the hall' from the police for years in the same building. Where were the cops?

"Haysite Reinforced Plastics is holding a job fair today from 9 am to 2 pm to hire permanent workers to replace the striking union members. Maybe it’s just my perception and not fact, but it seems like the Haysite union members are always on strike. I’d bet in the past 10 years they’ve spent more time at the plant gate with picket signs than on the plant floor."
are you utterly insane? there hasn't been a strike at haysite since the 1970's.
