Forgitron of Cleveland announced they have plans to produce aluminum wheels in Camden, NJ. Competitors are Accuride, which produces wheels in Erie, and Alcoa. Tom Smith, who will be the plant’s manager, previously worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Erie, Pa, before the plant became Accuride.
The Juilliard School presented a concert on Monday night honoring Erie native Peter Mennin, who served as Juilliard’s president for 21 years until his death in 1983.
A crew from “Creepy Canada” stopped in Erie on their way to the Pittsburgh area. They shopped for costumes at the Army-Navy store on State Street.
Erie International Airport, Tom Ridge Field posted one of the best on-time records in the country at 95.7 percent. The US average for 2004 was 77.4 percent.

Gannon University has signed affiliation agreements with Ross University that will benefit Gannon students hoping to pursue careers in medicine. The agreements are as follows: Dual degree agreement with Ross University School of Medicine – allows qualified students to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gannon and an MD degree from Ross in a total of seven years; Dual degree agreement with Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine – allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gannon and a DVM degree from Ross in a total of seven years; and articulation agreements with both schools.
The Gannon University Nash Library Book Sale will continue today from 10 am to 6 pm. Hardcover books, paperbacks, pocket paperbacks, videos, and audio books will be offered in categories like history, engineering, business, psychology, science, education, and medicine.
Then Thursday thru Saturday is the book sale at the Erie County Library Blasco branch at 160 East Front Street. The hours are noon-8 Thursday, 9-5 Friday and 9-3 on Saturday.
The Guelcher Film Series movie this week is Murderball. The film will be shown today at 2 and 8 pm at the Mercyhurst Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center. Murderball is a film quadriplegic rugby players. Wheelchair rugy is highly competitive, rough sport. The movie made a star out of Mark Zupan.
The Achievement Center and the Sarah Reed Children’s Center are scaring up a good time at the Ninth Annual ‘Trail of Treats.’ This years event will be held two nights, October 26th and 27th, from 5 pm to 8:30 pm in the dungeons, err, concourses of the Millcreek Mall. Children attending will show off their costumes and receive treats from between 35-50 ‘treat stations’ or table sponsors throughout the Mall. This event enables children to celebrate Halloween in a safe, fun and climate-controlled environment. Proceeds from the event will benefit children with physical disabilities at the Achievement Center, and children with mental health issues served by Sarah Reed’s Children Center. Cost is only $2 per child in advance, and $3 at the door.
Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute (SETI), will discuss his work and its possible social ramifications at an Open House Night in Astronomy lecture on Thursday, October 27. The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in McGarvey Commons on the campus of Penn State Behrend. It is free and open to the public.

The Erie Otters get a head start on weekend action Wednesday when they welcome the Mississauga IceDogs to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 pm start. The game can be heard live on JetRadio 1400 and on-line at OttersHockey.com. Hamot Hockey Night begins with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m. The game can also been seen live on the Image Sports Network (Adelphia Channel 12 and Time Warner Channel 20).
Gannon University junior forward Christina Jackson (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain Southview) was named to the Division II Basketball Bulletin Preseason All-American honorable-mention team.
