Erie PA News and Events for Friday November 25, 2005
Erie PA was spared from a heavy snowfall. The CIty of Erie received 2-4 inches of snow. Strong winds forced most of the snow inland. Corry PA, in Southeast Erie County, received around 14 inches of snow. In Chautauqua County New York, just to the East of Erie, Clymer NY received 22 inches of snow.
Erie did set a record low temperature for November 24 with it hitting 18 degrees. A steady wind of over 20 mph with gusts to near 40 mph mad it feel much colder.
On the bright side, it’s supposed to reach 60 degrees on Monday.
Interesting article (registration required) in todays Erie newspaper. A few weeks ago the city laidoff the city hall janitors. The maintenance crew is filling in until 2006 starts and they can get a contract with a janitorial firm. City hall workers were asked to help out a bit by emptying they trash cans. Preposterous! says the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the union for the city paper pushers. AFSCME filed grievances against the city. Then the police attempted to have prisoners clean the police department area. Many inmates must do community service work and this seemed like a good solution to everyone but AFSCME. The union filed a grievance. I hope that when more layoffs are needed that they come from AFSCME members and not police or firefighters.
Those than can do. Those that can’t teach. Those that can’t teach get government jobs.
Happy Birthday to meteorologist Brian Neudorff. Maybe we should thank Brian for the small amount of snow we received.

The Gannon University men’s basketball team returns to action tonight when it hosts the 19th annual Gary Miller Classic. Ohio Valley and Pitt-Johnstown kick off the tournament at 6 pm with Gannon battling GLIAC foe Northwood at 8 pm.
John Hughes scored twice to lead the Belleville Bulls to a 2-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,497 at the Tullio Arena. Anthony Peluso netted the lone Otters goal. The Otters dropped their sixth straight. The Otters return to action Saturday night when the Kitchener Rangers visit the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 pm start. The game can also be seen live on the Image Sports Network (Adelphia Channel 12 in Erie County and Time Warner Channel 20 in the City of Erie). I’m not sure when he left the team but Goaltender Jhase Sniderman signed with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
