Erie PA News and Events for Monday November 7, 2005
Winds with gusts up to 50 mph pounded the Erie area on Sunday. Fallen trees knocked down power line thought the region. Waves on Lake Erie reached 6-8 feet.
Tuesday is election day. Remeber to vote. THe most interesting race seems to be the race for Erie County Executive between Republican Dale McBrier and Democrat Mark DiVecchio.
The Sertoma Club of Erie holds a pancake breakfast today at the Masonic Temple, 8th and Peach. All you can eat for $5. It’s always held the Monday before election day so beware of the politians.

The Art Galleries of Allegheny College will present “Virginia Maksymowicz: Stations of the Cross” and “Photography Plus” from Tuesday, Nov 8 through Wednesday, Dec 7. The galleries will be closed for Thanksgiving break, Nov 23-27. In conjunction with the opening, artists Patricia Villalobos Echeverria and Andrew Johnson, who are included in the exhibit “Photography Plus,” will each present an informal slide lecture about the process and imagery of their work on Tuesday, Nov 8, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm in the Art Galleries. Following the artists’ talks, at 8:30 pm, a reception will be held to celebrate the opening of the exhibits.
The 16th Annual Silberman Recital Series at Allegheny College continues on Wednesday, Nov 9 with a performance by concert accordionist Joseph Petric. The concert, which begins at 7:30 pm in Ford Memorial Chapel, is free and open to the public.
On Friday, November 11, Henry Segall’s play, Heaven Can Wait, opens at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The production will be held in Penn State Behrend’s Studio Theatre and will be performed on November 11-12 and November 16-20 at 8 pm and Sundays, November 13 and 20, at 2 pm. General admission is $5.
The Kent State University women’s basketball team defeated Gannon University 97-60. Christina Jackson led the Gannon offense with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ashley Lowdermilk hit a team-high three three-pointers and finished with 11 points. Carrie Nolan (Girard High School) scored eight points while making her first start.
The Gannon University men’s basketball team will travel to the University of Buffalo on Friday, November 11 for an exhibition game against the Division I Bulls. Admission to Buffalo’s Alumni Arena is free of charge. Game time is 8 pm. Gannon returns four letterwinners and three starters from last year’s 18-11 squad. Last year, the Golden Knights advanced to the GLIAC Tournament for the ninth consecutive season and the NCAA Division II Tournament for the sixth straight campaign. The University of Buffalo finished the 2004-05 season with a 23-10 mark and gained a berth in the NIT.
