Erie PA News and Events for Tuesday November 8, 2005

The county announced that that the public saftey building housing the Erie County Hazardous Materials Response Team and the Erie County 911 Center will be built on property located on the former Hammermill/ IP plant property.
Steelers fans and Browns fans can go head to head this week to compete for a 4 pack of tickets to the Steelers/Browns game in Pittsburgh this Sunday night. Fans can come to the blood bank this week until noon Friday and donate on behalf of their team. The team with the most donors is the winner and one member of the winning team will be chosen at random to win a 4 pack of tickets to this sold out game. There will be other great prizes too, including Steelers & a Browns neon signs generously donated by Gary Wassel Neon with a retail value of about $400 per sign. All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Erie Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. Community Blood Bank is open from 9-6 Monday through Friday and until 7:30pm Tuesday night and Saturday 9am-12:30 pm. Photo ID required.

Tom Ridge of Erie, former US Secretary of Homeland Security and Governor of Pennsylvania, will present the opening keynote address at the upcoming Infosecurity New York event, December 7, 2005, at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center in New York.

The Art Galleries of Allegheny College will present “Virginia Maksymowicz: Stations of the Cross” and “Photography Plus” from Tuesday, Nov 8 through Wednesday, Dec 7. The galleries will be closed for Thanksgiving break, Nov 23-27. In conjunction with the opening, artists Patricia Villalobos Echeverria and Andrew Johnson, who are included in the exhibit “Photography Plus,” will each present an informal slide lecture about the process and imagery of their work on Tuesday, Nov 8, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm in the Art Galleries. Following the artists’ talks, at 8:30 pm, a reception will be held to celebrate the opening of the exhibits.
The 16th Annual Silberman Recital Series at Allegheny College continues on Wednesday, Nov 9 with a performance by concert accordionist Joseph Petric. The concert, which begins at 7:30 pm in Ford Memorial Chapel, is free and open to the public.
The Erie Ad Club will hold its eleventh Annual Lifestyle and Media Benefit Auction at the Bel Aire Hotel on Thursday November 17th. The doors open at 5:30pm for a Preview Party and the silent auction starts at 6:30. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations can be made by calling the Erie Ad Club Hotline at 814-451-8677. Media and Creative Packages will include: radio, television, direct mail, outdoor advertising, internet, web development, print advertising, printing, video, 3-D or animation, photography, and marketing/ advertising plans. Retail/Lifestyle items include: hotel accommodations and travel, cultural and sporting event tickets, dinner certificates, and merchandise packages. Proceeds will provide scholarship funding for the Erie Ad Club, which awards scholarships to area college students in the fields of: Photography, Graphic Art, Applied Media Arts and Graphic Design. Donations are still being accepted by the Erie Ad Club for this event. Erie native Bob Sanders of the Colts forced a fumble and had 4 tackles in the Indianapolis 40-21 win over New England. Guys that are 5’ 8” rule.
