Republican Dale McBrier has conceded the Erie County Executive race. He will not ask for a recount nor persue any court challenges. Pretty smart move since the writing was on the wall already. Democrat Mark DiVecchio has leading in the official count by 122 votes. McBrier had the lead at the end of election night with six more votes than DiVecchio. McBrier lashed out at the Republican part for not supporting him more. Although McBrier did better than expected in the City of Erie, the votes he was counting on in other parts of the county never materialized. The City of Erie mayor gets the big coverage from the TV stations and newspaper but the Erie County budget is 4 times larger and is a much more important position in every respect.
If you guessed that the first snow would fall on November 17th, you win. It’s snowing and cold. A couple of inches or snow is expected and temperatures will fall into the mid 20’s tonight. The snow might not stick because the ground is still warm but snow is snow. It sucks. The Lake Erie water temperature is 52 degrees and until the lake starts freezing over, huge amounts of snow could dump on the area.
A new low-cost airline is coming to Erie International Airport. It’s called Airlink Express and will only fly within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Services would begin next April with 4-round-trip flights a day between, Harrisburg, State College and Erie. More flights will be added down the road. Airlink Express is designed so travelers can fly directly to smaller airports without the high price and without going through a hub like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
