Erie PA News and Events for Wednesday December 7, 2005
Erie City Council holds another budget meeting today. They have until the end of the year to approve a budget and so far they have done zero work on it. They get their faces on TV and do interviews but as for their jobs….nothing. They talk and listen to department heads. They lack leadership and the guts to make any cuts.

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced today that they have traded defenseman Derek Merlini to the Plymouth Whalers for a conditional sixth round pick and an 11th round pick in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection. They waited to long and got almost nothing in return for him. The deal brings the number of overage players on the Otters roster to the League limit of three. About time. The Otters face Owen Sound tonight at 7:30 pm.
The Mercyhurst College baseball skills camp, open to all High School level athletes, will be held on Saturday December 17th from 10am-2pm. Check in time is from 9am-10am. The camp will be held on campus inside the recreation center. The camp instructors will be Mercyhurst staff, as well as local coaches and professional scouts. The fee is $75 per camper. For questions or to reserve a spot in the camp call coach Joe Spano at (814) 824-2441.

It's a joke watching the city council members at the budget meetings. They have not made any hard decisions or cuts at all, and they are being walked over by department heads whom they fail to challenge.
Asking department heads to come up with "cuts" will never work since all of these people are like little kings who protect their own kingdoms. That's why it's up to Council themselves to make the hard choices.
Jim Thompson is one person who simply cannot be counted on to push for any real structural changes or cuts to the Fire Department. His bias towards the Fire Department is obvious, and it's reinforced by the fact that his daughter Ruth is married to an Erie City Fireman (Brian Delio).

Pollstar reports Jerry Seinfeld will be at the Warner Theatre on March 16, 2006.
On another note.... The Otters will be glad they fixed their overage problem... Too bad we probably won't be able to get a goalie before the deadline. Or maybe we should just let the Ludzik era start now....

I feel you right about City Council there not going to do their job,we are all going to have to fined away to pay for the mess that local goverment has put us in with these dame unions its killing me.We have to paid for their free insurance,we have to pay for their fat ass penion plan, and we have to pay for their future cost of living rise even though they don't call it that. These unions dont' know the word sacrifice they just want more and more and its too bad that theirs no one at city hall willing to stand up to these unions we can't go on paying for these fat contracts their not picking up my trash any different, their not fighting fires any different,so why do they deserve so much?.The City isn't some major corporation that show a profit at the end of year so way do these f-en unions take so much?If theres a council person out there or a Mayor that doesn't have connection with these unions please show up for work and do something about the bleeding.
