The State Democratic Appropriations Committee commissioned a study of revenue projections to see how much money the state could expect to get in tax revenue from slot machines for the 14 licenses. The Innovation Group, a New Orleans consultanting company, projected that the slot machines in Erie at Presque Isle Downs would generate just a bit less than $200 million a year in sales. Holy cow.

James Darrell Carson of Erie, a freshman linebacker for the IUP football team, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment when he got into a fight with Corey Allen Heiks at Heiks’ apartment during a party.

MusicLand Group announced that they are closing down all their Media Play stores. Media Play has a store in Erie at 1920 Keystone Dr which is next to Lowes.

Chris Allison, a 1983 Allegheny College graduate, and his wife, Jane France, have given $100,000 to Allegheny to endow an unrestricted fund supporting faculty members. Allison announced the gift while on campus as Allegheny’s entrepreneur-in-residence. Retired chairman and CEO of Tollgrade, Allison served as a guest lecturer in economics courses and spent time meeting informally with students. He also presented a seminar entitled “How My Liberal Arts Education Saved My Company.” Allison majored in English at Allegheny College and is currently president of Upsight, LLC Management Consultants in Pittsburgh.

The Marine Corps Reserve Erie Toys For Tots program is asking for your help. Their goal this season is to make sure that every child in Northwestern Pennsylvania has a gift to open on Christmas. Recycled Percussion is returning to the Allegheny College campus on Tuesday December 13 at 7:30 pm to premier their brand-new show and film their international music video and DVD titled “Recycled Percussion: Live at Allegheny.”

This is the 47th year the Lake Erie Ballet will present the holiday favorite “The Nutcracker.” Performances will be held at the Warner Theatre December 16th at 7 pm, 17th at 7 pm and 18th at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $15 to $30.

Penn State Behrend will hold their Fall 2005 Commencement on Saturday December 17 at Noon. Dr Mary Beth Pinto, associate professor of marketing and Director of the Center for Credit and Consumer Research at Behrend, will be the Commencement speaker.

Jordan Owens and Cody Bass each scored a goal and an assist to lead the Mississauga IceDogs to a 3-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played Sunday afternoon at the Hershey Centre. Sean O’Connor scored the lone Otters goal.

Pitt’s Ultimate Frisbee team beat Edinboro University 15-13. Halves in Ultimate are not timed; they last until one team reaches eight points. The game ends when one team reaches 15 points. An Ultimate Frisbee field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with each end zone 25 yards deep. Players are not allowed to run with the disc once they catch it and there is no contact between opposing players. A player can only hold on to the disc for 10 seconds before he or she is forced to turn over the disc.
