The Erie Police raided a home on Erie’s lower Eastside and seized 4 pit bulls that were suspected to be involved in dog fighting. This story could get interesting.


Jeffrey Lesko has been named as the assistant middle school principal of the West Allegheny School District. Lesko began his career as an alternative education administrator and teacher for the Girard School District in Erie County in 1998.
The Community Blood Bank ends the biggest promotion in its 38 year history on Saturday December 31st. That is the final day to donate blood and enter to win the Life Drive in 05, an event that teams up with New Motors to give some lucky blood donor a New Car! New Motors has generously donated a 2 year lease for a beautiful red 2005 Volvo S40. All blood donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. Community Blood Bank is open from 9-6 Monday through Friday and until 7:30 pm Tuesday night and Saturday, New Year’s Eve from 9 am-12:30 pm. Photo ID required.
The Highmark Quad Cross County Ski and Snowshoe race will be held January 8, 2006 at 1 pm on the Upper Golf Course of Peek ‘n Peak. The cross country ski race is 5 miles and the snowshoe race is 2.5 miles. This is the final event of the 23rd Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Quad Games season.
Presque Isle State Park has planned a couple of guided snowshoe hikes: Jan 14, how animals survive in winter; Jan 28, tree and plant identification; Feb 15, winter magic; and Feb 25, tracking animals in snow. All the hikes run from 1-3 pm. Also, on Jan 18 and Feb 15 there will be a night hike from 6-8 pm. Snowshoes are available free of charge to those who make reservations and register. Shelby Chaney had 35 points and 17 rebounds as the Gannon University mens’ basketball team rolled past Daemen 78-62 Thursday evening in the 32nd annual Porreco Cup semifinals at the Hammermill Center. In the opening game, Quincy defeated Lake Superior State 76-59. The 32nd annual Porreco Cup concludes Friday, December 30. Lake Superior State and Daemen will battle in the consolation game at 6 pm. Gannon and Quincy will go after the title at 8 pm.
Michael Blunden of the Erie Otters had two assists as the Canadian National Junior Hockey Team defeated Norway 4-0. They face the USA on Saturday.
The Windsor Spitfires scored five unanswered goals to erase an early deficit on their way to a 5-1 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played Thursday night in from of 2,862 at the Windsor Arena. Sean O’Connor scored the lone Otters goal only 25 seconds into the game. The Otters wrap up the first half a six-game road trip Friday night in Plymouth against the Whalers.
Mercyhurst College won for the fifth time in its last six games and improved to 10-2 overall with a 70-47 win over Teikyo Post in the First Round of the Doubletree Doc Jacobs Classic hosted by Saint Michael’s College. Mercyhurst, now 9-0 this season in non-conference games, will play Concordia of New York Friday at 5:00pm in the tournament’s final day.
Mercyhurst sophomore forward Stephanie Jones and freshman forward Valerie Chouinard will miss the Lakers’ first two games of 2006 to play for Canada’s 2005-06 National Under-22 Team. The Mercyhurst College womens’ hockey team is ranked 6th in Division I.
Gannon head men’s basketball coach John Reilly has announced the addition of Kevin Lee (Lansing Michigan Everett) to the 2005-06 roster for the second semester. Lee will have three years of eligibility left after playing during the 2000-01 season at Division I Central Florida.

i went to the blood bank today to donate and it was quite busy. all but one chair was full the whole time i was there with about 3 others in the waiting room. the woman who took my blood said it was more "steady" than busy, but yesterday was busy. plus, one of the techs (melissa) was pretty cute.
