Erie PA News and Events for Tuesday January 3, 2006
Gilbert “Griz” Zimmermann, Gannon University Athletic Director, has abruptly resigned. No reason was announced. If anyone knows why Griz left, leave a comment. Gannon head football coach Bill Elias was named interim athletic director. Zimmermann took over as Gannon AD in January of 2004 succeeding the late Michael Corbett.
I think there have been 8 different athletic directors in the 9 years or so since Howard “Bud” Elwell retired. Elwell was a member of the athletics department at Gannon University for 35 years. He became the AD in 1967 and was elected to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 1997.
I saw on the news that Nicole Becker, the wife of one of the Erie Police officers that is being laid off, has a petition drive going to get the city to re-hire the officers. Well, they were laid off becasue the city doesn’t have the money to pay them. A petition won’t cure that. I got a kick out of the fact that the Beckers live in the suburbs and not the City of Erie. I wonder how many police officers, firefighters and other city employees don’t live or pay taxes in the area where they work.
Herb Riede was recently sworn into office as mayor of McSherrystown, PA. Riede was born in Erie. He attended Edinboro University of Pa graduating with a major in elementary education and a minor in computer science.

What the hell? Bobby Schindler is raising public awareness about euthanasia? Does he realize that his sister wasn't euthanased, but she died because her feeding tube was taken out per her wishes? There's a big difference between not prolonging someone's life that cannot swallow liquid and food, and giving them a drug to cause death.
That whole family is nucking futs anyways.

I don't think the Schiavo ordeal was so cut and dry that it can be reduced to either euthanasia or informed consent, hence the huge ordeal surrounding her death. At the very least, her brother is proving that the family was very serious about the value of her life --talk the talk, walk the walk sort of thing.

I thought the same thing when I saw the cop's wife. The media made a point of saying "A Millcreek woman..." which I thought was funny & sly. And yeah a petition to get your husband hired back is not going to work.
I wonder if Bobby Schindler is donating his speaking fees to charity or if he's making a personal profit. Kind of makes one wonder.

Oh I forgot to add: Go Noles! *duck* *run*

Even if Mr. Schindler makes a personal profit, that is understandable since the guy still has to eat. I'd be disturbed if he was making an obscene profit off the speaking circuit but I doubt that's the case.
By the way... PENN STATE YOU ROCK! The Noles lost in an incredible... actually, an incredibly boring triple overtime. Good game, but a bit too long.
