A Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Lab Response Team took part a meth lab bust in Wesleyville. This marks the 9th lab that this team has cleaned up on 3 weeks.
There is an excellent article by Mike Bucsko in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the budget troubles Erie is experiencing. Pittsburgh entered a state-mandated financial recovery plan under Act 47 last year. So far, Erie has avoided it.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has set April 21 as the date for a public evidence-gathering hearing in Erie PA on the slots license application of Presque Isle Downs. The applicants will be allotted 40 minutes to present their plan and speak, local officials 30 minutes, community organizations 10 minutes and members of the public three minutes. At least two members of the seven member board must be present at the hearing. MTR Gaming is currently in the early stages of building Presque Isle Downs on Perry Highway (Route 97) just South of I-90 in Summit Township.

The Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy will present a selection of eight ten-minute plays in the John F Linden Performing Arts Theatre at Collegiate Academy. The final performance is today at 3 pm. Tickets, which will be available at the door, are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
The Great Escape Film Series at The Movies in Meadville will be showing “Jesus is Magic”. This film showcases the stand up comedy of Sarah Silverman. It will be shown tonight at 7:30 pm.

U.S. Rep. Phil English is holding a press conference on Monday, January 23 at noon at the American Legion on West 12 St.
Journalist, poet, activist and lecturer Kevin Powell will speak at Allegheny on Wednesday, Jan 25 at 7 pm in the Ford Chapel. Powell’s lecture — titled “Looking for Martin: Are Dr King and His ‘Dream’ Still Relevant?” — will examine the life of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, the importance of the civil rights movement, and present-day challenges. Kevin was the jerk on the first season of MTV’s “The Real World: New York” in 1992.
The Highmark Quad Games Cross County Ski and Snowshoe Race has been postponed again due to lack of snow. The event was originally scheduled for Jan 8th, then pushed back to Jan 15, then Jan 22 and now has been rescheduled for Jan 29. If there is still no snow by Jan 29 it will be pushed back to Feb 5 and then to each successive Sunday. The final attempt will be Feb 26.


David Bolland scored the only goal of the shootout to carry the London Knights past the Erie Otters 5-4 in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,141 at the Tullio Arena. Sean O’Connor, Nick Palmieri, Chris Greene and Mike Blunden tallied for the Otters. Adam Berti collected three assists. The next Otters home game is Wednesday when the Guelph Storm visit the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 pm start.
Despite a 59-10 advantage in shots, the 6th ranked Mercyhurst College women’s hockey team needed a pair of third period goals to overtake Niagara 2-1 Saturday night in a College Hockey America (CHA) contest before nearly 400 fans at Dwyer Arena. The Lakers improved to 15-6-2 overall and to 6-0-1 in the conference.
The Mercyhurst College men’s hockey team scored five times in the first period and went on to derail American International College 7-1 before 1,018 fans at the Mercyhurst Ice Center Saturday night. The Lakers won their fourth straight game as they improved to 15-8-0 overall and to 14-4-0 in Atlantic Hockey.

It's a shame the Pittsburgh article had to interview and quote Jake Rouch.
Rouch is and has been part of the problem in Erie for over a decade. He's been in various economic development positions, and has done a horrible job in that regard.
But Rouch is such a good self-promoter (appearing on television, newspapers, and joining virtually every organization in town), that his lackluster record is never challenged by anyone. Jake hasn't done jack.
