The loud flushing sound heard in Erie PA on Thursday was a campaign going down the toilet. Congressman Phil English will be presenting a Congressional Certificate of Recognition to the Community Blood Bank Friday morning at 10:30 am. Congress decreed that January is National Blood Donor Month and encourages everyone who can to come and meet the needs of patients by donating blood. Last year the Community Blood Bank supplied over 30,000 units of blood and blood products to patients at hospitals in four Pennsylvania counties. In 2006, the CBB expects to supply over 40,000 to hospitals in seven counties in Pennsylvania and New York. There has been a serious blood shortage since early last week and many more donors are needed, as blood use has been extremely heavy for the past week. Many local patients need blood just to stay alive. All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. Community Blood Bank is open from 9 am - 6 pm Monday through Friday and until 7:30 pm Tuesday night and Saturday 9 am-12:30 pm. Photo ID required.
