Get your cameras ready. The old smokestack at Koehler Brewery will be imploded on Thursday February 9, 2006 to make way for constuction of a new building at Koehler Brewery Square. Cornerstone Healthcare, Urbaniak Brothers and a Pennsylvania Wine and Spirts store have signed leases to move into the new complex.
Randy Brewer announced he will seek the Republican nomination for the 1st Legislative District seat in the Pennsylvania State Assembly currently held by Linda Bebko-Jones. Bebko-Jones voted in favor of the legislative pay raise and unlike others, has kept the money. Republican Christine Pontoriero and Democrat Dennis Iaquinta, Democrat Pat Harkins previously announced they are also running. The primary election will be held on May 16, 2006.
Gordon Food Services currently services their Pittsburgh area customers from a service center in Erie but is opening a distribution facility in Monroeville, PA later this year. Gordon services institutions such as hospitals, schools and restaurants.

Bundle up and join the Gem City Jazz Ensemble for SUNDAY FUNDAYS at the Blasco Library Auditorium on February 5th at 3 pm. The concert is free and open to public. This won’t be your ordinary jazz concert though, bring the kids and they can learn about the origins of jazz - America’s greatest cultural achievement. When you mix a great cause with drinking and golf, you come up with the MECA United Cerebral Palsy Barstool Open. It’s time for the 8th Annual Barstool Open. This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday, February 18, 2006. Download your 2006 Barstool Open Registration Form today. If you haven’t heard about the event before, here is a quick run down. Teams of 4 people walk bar to bar, playing a miniature golf hole at each bar. The bars get pretty creative on the designs. It’s gets a bit difficult after you’ve had 6 beers at 6 bars.
The registration fee is $25 per person, $100 per team. You must bring a putter and a couple of golf balls. Almost 1,000 people participated in last years event making the Erie event the largest in the country.
The Border Collie Society of America is holding an All Breed Agility Trial February 18-19, 2006 at the Countryside Agility Training Center in Edinboro PA . This event will bring hundreds of people from all over the country to the area.
As part of their week of caring, The United Way of Erie County will sponsor free ice skating at Mercyhurst College Ice Center on Monday February 20, from 10 am to 2 pm. This is a a non-attendance day for schools. Bring your own skates. Free popcorn and beverages will also be provided. This is open to adults and children.
Sheryl Crow will be performing at the Warner Theater in Erie PA on March 22, 2006. Tickets are not on sale yet. She just split with Lance Armstrong.
David Bolland scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the London Knights to a 5-4 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 9,090 at the John Labatt Centre. Ryan O’Marra, Derrick Bagshaw, Josh Vatri and Adam Berti scored for the Otters. The Otters complete weekend action tonight when the Kitchener Rangers visit the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 pm start.
The Edinboro University wrestling team (8-0, 2-0 EWL) remained one of three undefeated NCAA Division I teams on Friday night with a 21-12 win at Lock Haven.
The Colgate University women’s hockey team skated to a 2-2 draw with No 6 Mercyhurst on Friday. Valerie Chouinard and Stefanie Bourbeau scored for the Hurst.
Mike Machuga of Erie cashed for $2500 at the PBA 2006 Bayer Atlanta Classic. Machuga stands in 10th place in the season points standings.
The Mercyhurst baseball team announced four seniors will serve as captains for 2006. Lakers Matt Echan, Joe Mariano, Brandon Mendola, and Brian Zacour have been selected by the team.

Hello everyone. I was doing some searches on Erie, and found this site. I used to live in Erie, and now reside in Las Vegas, NV. One of the things I miss most about Erie, is the people. People are so down to earth, and easy going. I only wish they were like that here. My husband is Eric Toner, and my sisternlaw is Stacey Martinez.
Great site...I'll keep checking you out!
