Erie PA News and Events for Monday February 6, 2006

Posted by Dennis on February 6, 2006

Three juveniles that stole a minivan in Erie were involved in wild police chase in the Buffalo area. Police have all three in custody. Two were from Rochester and the home town of the other wasn’t released. The chase, involving a helicopter and police from a number of jurisdictions, started after a robbery in West Seneca, NY. Police were already searching for their vehicle when a call for a second robbery call came in. An elderly woman was held up at the Boulevard Mall by suspect carrying a rifle. Sound familiar? First there were reports of a couple of minivans being stolen in the Erie area. Then, an elderly woman had a rifle placed in her stomach during an attempted purse snatching at the Millcreek Mall on Friday. They fled without the purse and headed toward the interstate and out of Erie. Bet it’s the same kids. Amherst NY police spotted the vehicle and the chase was on. The kids crashed into four other vehicles as the were headed toward Williamsville, NY. They attempted to flee on foot but were caught with the help of the eye in the sky, the helicopter known as Air One.

The Union City School District schools are closed today. That area got blasted with snow. Plus, I think their family bus wouldn’t start.
No other school are closed. Cripe, it’s just a couple of inches of snow folks. And stop calling the police for road conditions. When it’s snowing the road conditions are bad. Every time.

You know, it's not often that I stick up for Union City, but that area is in the heart of the snowbelt. I used to live near there during grade school up until my freshman year. There's a lot of windy, hilly roads in that school district and it makes it extremely hard to plow the roads (plus many of them are back roads).

Also, the fuel in a diesel school bus, in extremely cold temperatures especially with chilly winds, will turn to gel. This happened many times with Wattsburg too, but (and anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) I'm not sure how decent of a bus garage the Union City school district has, or if they have one at all.

Most likely they figured it was safter to cancel school and let the plows cover more area, than risk an accident.

I used to have to drive to Union City every Friday morning w/ my job. They don't plow. Usually only one lane of the road is open and I'm talking about main roads like Rt 8. And people drive like fricking maniacs, like it's the middle of July. I was scared to death every time I had to go there after a snowfall. I'm not surprised they're closed.

Ok, Browns and Bills fans listen up. We are champions, will always be champions and now we have one for the thumb. This city has always been and always will be Steeler country. So until you win a Superbowl, you all just need to shut the F*ck up from now on and watch you little pathetic teams at home on the black and white.

Classy. Spoken like a true Steelers fan.
