Erie PA News and Events for Monday February 13, 2006
The Greater Erie Unity Committee (no website as it is still about 1994 for most people in Erie County) announced that they now have enough signatures to place the question or weather or not to form a study commission to consider a merger between the City of Erie and Millcreek Township. The study will likely pass but there won’t be a merger until people realize it’s not Erie vs Millcreek. It’s this region against the other 6,447,297 people on the plant. If for no other reason that possibly putting a few politicians out of a job, a merger is worth exploring.
There was a Magnitude 2.6 earthquake 3 miles NW of Mentor-on-the-Lake, OH which is about 70 miles SW of Erie PA. This was the third micro earthquake this year for this area around Cleveland. Cleveland did not drop into Lake Erie as there was no damage reported. Ohio has recorded more than 185 earthquakes since 1776.
There are a number of peddlers in the area selling things out of vans in parking lots from velvet Elvis paintings to tools to Steelers merchandise. A Steelers vendor was robbed yesterday. The two white male suspects got away with a couple of hundred dollars. Since no merchandise was taken, I’m guessing it was Browns, Bills or Seahawks fans.

When you mix a great cause with drinking and golf, you come up with the MECA United Cerebral Palsy Barstool Open. It’s time for the 8th Annual Barstool Open. This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday, February 18, 2006. Download your 2006 Barstool Open Registration Form today. If you haven’t heard about the event before, here is a quick run down. Teams of 4 people walk bar to bar, playing a miniature golf hole at each bar. The bars get pretty creative on the designs.
The registration fee is $25 per person, $100 per team. You must bring a putter and a couple of golf balls. Almost 1,000 people participated in last years event making the Erie event the largest in the country.
