Erie PA News and Events for Sunday February 19, 2006

Good job by the Erie Times-News on the story about the taxpayer rip-off by Bac Consulting doing computer work for the Erie County Office of Children and Youth. After spending millions on computer services by BAC Consulting, the office is still using pen and paper to conduct business. You would figues after spending over $20,000 per employee, they would have received some sort of working system. Pat Wardell which founded BAC is now a 20-something semi-retired in Flordia who spends his time scuba diving.
Bobbo posted that Fat Boy’s should soon reopen. Pat Artise owns the building. I wonder who he found to lease the place. Artise also owns the building across the street that houses Peccadillo’s. Not sure if he still owns a chunk of the business as well. Usually he buys a failing place, fixes them up and either sells then or leases them out. He’s made a mint doing that. Artise just bought Snoozies in Harborcreek and plans to open it under a new name. He also owns the Shorewood Inn and has plans to put 2 bars and restaurants in the old Skateway Roller Rink in Harborcreek.
Look for a couple of Radio Shack’s in the area to close. The company announced that they are closing 10 percent of their 7,000 stores.

Mike Blunden scored a goal and an assist and Josh Disher turned aside 37 shots as the Erie Otters skated to a 4-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 4,607 at the Tullio Arena. The victory was the Otters fourth straight. Sean O’Connor, Vince Scott and Ryan O’Marra netted the other Otters goals. The two teams meet again tonight in a 6 pm contest. The game kicks off the United Way’s Week of Thanks with discount coupons available at www.unitedwayerie.org and free parking courtesy of the Erie Parking Authority at the 10th and French Street lot.
Mike Machuga took 7th place at the PBA Tour US Open. He cashed for $7,000.
Erin Kerner (Erie Mercyhurst Prep) scored 17 points and was also perfect from the free-throw line shooting 7-7 in the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team’s 74-64 win over Wagner College.
