Erie PA News and Events for Wednesday February 22, 2006
It looks like the new Erie County public safety building will be built near the Erie County Vo-Tech School. The county is buying 60 acres of land from the school districts which run Vo-Tech. One football field is about an acre. Why they need 60 acres is beyond me. The building will cost $14 million. Why $14 million? That’s how much they have to spend. You tell a politician how much they have to spend and they find a way to spend that amount and will come back for more. I could name two dozen empty factory or warehouse sites along 12th Street where this facility could be located at a much lower cost. It won’t be on tax rolls anyway because the county will own it so it might be a good thing to put it in the suburbs. The facility will be the home of the county 911 system, the Hazmat Team and the county emergency management operations.
