Erie PA News and Events for Friday March 31, 2006

Posted by Dennis on March 31, 2006

How do you tell if someone with the City of Erie government is lying? Their lips are moving. The ANNA Shelter received a $100,000 contract to take in Erie stray animals. The property isn’t zoned for that use. They are breaking the law. When Erie City Council approved the contract Jon Whaley, assistant to Mayor Joe Sinnott, said he didn’t know about the zoning violation. The property owners asked him for help just the day before to get a zoning variance. So Jon Whaley is a big fat liar. The ANNA Shelter is run by Ruth Delio, daughter of Erie City Council member Jim Thompson. Seems the entire family thinks they are above obeying the law. Whaley should do the honorable thing which would be to resign and take his own life in a public ceremony.

In a great move Gannon University President Antoine M. Garibaldi, PhD, announced the appointment of Director of Athletics, Bill Elias, effective immediately. Elias has been serving as interim Director of Athletics since January 2, 2006. Elias has also served as the University’s head football coach since 1999. A University-wide committee conducted a national search and received 103 applications for this position.

When FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III went before a House subcommittee Tuesday to explain the Bureau’s budget request, one of the success stories he gave involved Mercyhurst College. No, The FBI didn’t conduct an investigation of child molestation allegations against former Mercyhurst College President Bill Garvey. Mueller told the House Subcommittee on Science, State, Justice, Commerce, and Related Agencies that the sabbatical program funded by Congress has allowed the FBI to send employees to Mercyhurst College and several government schools including the National Defense University and the Naval War College. Two FBI employees are enrolled in their first year of Mercyhurst’s two-year graduate program in applied intelligence.

Note to Tyronne Stallworth who thinks the City of Erie should sell the Erie SeaWolves and the Erie Otters. You stupid moron. Those teams are owned by people, private businesses, not the CIty of Erie.

I agree, hiring Bill Elias was a great move! He has done so much for Gannon University and the football program- taking Gannon from a Non-scholarship era to Scholarship in the premier Division II conference the GLIAC. And Coach Elias played a large role in bringing Gannon Athletics an ON campus Athletic field/stadium so that students do not have to bus to Vets to see home football games. Bravo to Gannon for bringing stability to the position.
