The owner of a strip club in Boise Idaho plead guilty to three misdemeanor charges that he violated the Boise anti-nudity law. He tried to get around the law by giving patrons sketch pads and pencils so they could draw the dancers in an attempt to make it ‘art.’ The judge cited the City of Erie anti-nudity ordinance which was upheld by the US Supreme Court in 1999.
The last strip club with erotic dancing by women in Erie was Pap’s AM which later changed it’s name to Kandyland. They tried the ‘art’ angle and also at one time served dinner trying to disguise what was going on as dinner theater.
It’s that fun time of year in Erie with the annual ONE large item collection on garbage night eg Welfare Christmas. Each household can put out ONE item such as an old couch in addition to their regular trash. Not much actually makes it to the landfill because scary people from miles around come and pick through the items.
Sara’s Restaurant at 25 Peninsula Drive opened for the season on Saturday. It’s amazing how busy the place is all the time.
The Detroit Tigers recalled RHP Jordan Tata from the Erie SeaWolves of the Eastern League because reliever Todd Jones went on the disabled list. Jez, the team isn’t even in town yet. Former Erie SeaWolves pitcher Fernando Rodney will be Tigers closer until Jones gets back.
The Bloomsburg University women’s lacrosse team lost to Gannon University on Sunday afternoon by a score of 20-7.
Defenseman Conrad Marin scored a goal in his pro debut with the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. In his senior season at Mercyhurst College, Martin recorded just one goal.
Gannon University students, faculty, and staff will participate in the university’s annual “Take Back the Night” march on Monday, April 3. The march, which is intended to raise awareness of domestic violence, will begin at 7 pm in Perry Square. The public is welcome to participate. Penn State Behrend, Crime Victim Center of Erie County, SafeNet, and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office are collaborating with Gannon on the event.

The Silberman Recital Series continues with a performance by the Alexander String Quartet in the Ford Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:30 pm. The Quartet is made up of noted performers Zakarias Grafilo and Frederick Lifsitz, violins, Paul Yarbrough, viola and Sandy Wilson, cello. The event is free and open to the public.
Stand Up Against Hunger will take place on April 6 at 6 pm at JR’s Last Laugh Comedy Club. Headliner is Jimmy Carroll along with guest humorist Sheriff Bob Merski and Bill Rosenquest, JR’s Home Emcee. Two shows: 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance. Call JR’s at 461-0911 for reservations. Proceeds benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania.
The musical “Brigadoon” will be performed at the Erie Playhouse April 6-9, 2006. For tickets and times call (814) 454-2852.
The Roadhouse Theatre will perform “Reservoir Dogs” Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm through May 6. Reservations are a must for this show and can be made by phone at (814) 456-5656 or in person at the Theatre Box Office, 145 West 11th Street. Box Office hours are 2-6 pm Tuesday – Saturday. The Theatre accepts cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Tickets remain ever affordable at the Roadhouse, $8 regular, $10 riser and $12 VIP. Students with ID can see the show for just $5.
Geriatrician and medical ethicist Jerald Winakur, MD, will speak at Allegheny College on Thursday, April 6 at 7:30 pm in the Tillotson Room of Cochran Hall. The talk, part of the college’s Lehman Medical Ethics Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.
Creating “heart-healthy families” is just one goal of the Gannon University Villa Maria School of Nursing. Toward that end, the school of nursing on Thursday, April 6 will host its annual community health fair. The event, titled “Family Fun Day: Get Up … Get Busy,” will be held from 4-7 pm at the Community Center at the John E Horan Garden Apartments, 2110 East 10th Street in Erie. A number of activities will be offered for young children, including Dino Jump, hula-hoop contests, and other games. Food and prizes also will be offered. The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Villa Maria School of Nursing and the Housing Authority of the City of Erie.
Mercyhurst Prep has a production of “Hello, Dolly!” playing April 6, 7, 8 at 7 pm as well as matinee performances April 8, 9 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $4 for students, $6 for seniors and $7 for adults.
The Builders Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania 46th annual Home Show takes place at the Family First Sports Park, 8155 Oliver Road, April 6-9.
The Erie Philharmonic will perform on Saturday April 8 at 8 pm at the Warner Theatre. This is Maestro Hugh Keelan’s farewell concert.
The Westminster Figure Skating Club of Erie annual spring show, “A Night on Broadway on Ice” takes place at Mercyhurst College Ice Arena in Erie PA at 7 pm on Saturday, April 8, and at 2 pm on Sunday, April 9. Professional figure skater Caryn Kadavy will perform in the show to Celtic Woman’s “Nella Fantasia.” Skaters of all ages and ability levels will take part in the two-hour show, which will feature nine solo performances by advanced skaters. Groups of skaters will perform to music from popular Broadway shows like “Mamma Mia,” “A Chorus Line,” “Oliver” and “The King and I.” The club’s three synchronized skating teams will perform as well. Advance tickets can be purchased from March 15 through April 8 at Debby’s Dance & Skate Shop, 3410 W 26th St., and The Dancewear Center, 3834 Liberty St. Tickets will also be available at the door. Tickets for adults are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Student and senior citizen tickets are $6 each and tickets for children 12 and under are $3. As part of its Holocaust Remembrance Film Series, Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will show the documentary “Paper Clips” on Monday, April 10, at 7 pm in 117 Reed Union Building. “Paper Clips” tells the moving story about how students at Whitwell Middle School in rural Tennessee responded to what had been to them a completely unfamiliar chapter in human history, the Holocaust. The film is free and open to the public.

The Erie office of Pennsylvania Career Link will hold a job and career fair, the 2006 Erie CareerFair on April 25, 2006 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 West 38th Street, Erie PA.

Oh, how right you are about the trash collection! I have seen people picking through our trash, even though ours is picked up in the middle of the night!
