Life Line choose Jackson Township, Ohio over Erie, Pa for their new call center. Nice job by the Erie politicians and the 25 Erie area economic development agencies that have failed again. Life Line Screening, a Cleveland-based provider of preventive health screenings across the country will hire 120 employees with a starting pay of $10 per hour in the next 18 months.

Steris announced that the Company has selected a facility in the Monterrey area of Mexico, as the future site for manufacturing operations that are being transferred from Erie, Pennsylvania. The Company has entered into an agreement to lease a facility owned by the Avante Group, a Monterrey-based real estate development company, located in the City of Guadalupe, just east of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo Leon and approximately two and a half hours south of Laredo, Texas. The facility comprises approximately 13 acres in the Guadalupe Industrial Park. Terms of the lease agreement were not disclosed.

Erie Plastics, a top-level injection molder servicing US and Global 500 companies, assumed standalone control of its operations based in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, via an agreement with Loranger Ipari to dissolve a four-year strategic partnership – one that was instrumental in assisting the company with the initial establishment of European-based operations. Under their original agreement, Erie Plastics subcontracted the majority of its production floor employees from Loranger Ipari but has now hired the 45 employees as Erie Plastics’ staff.

Penn State Behrend will be participating in a call-in program, which will be broadcast live on C-SPAN3 today from 3 to 4:30 pm. Tom Ridge, former US Secretary of Homeland Security, former governor of Pennsylvania and former US Representative from Erie, is the featured guest. Steve Scully, C-SPAN senior executive producer and political editor and Erie native, teaches the course.

Judson Herrman, Assistant professor of Classical Studies at Allegheny College, has received a National Humanities Center Fellowship for the academic year 2006-07.

More than 80 high school students are scheduled to attend the next Erie’s Promise student forum for the 2005-06 academic year from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 21, in the McGarvey Commons at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. With representatives from nearly every Erie County high school, this student forum is designed to unite student leaders, reinforce this year’s focus on healthy lifestyles—particularly combating obesity—and discuss the students’ service projects and their progress to date.

Tonight, Train featuring lead singer and Erie native Pat Monahan, plays the AJ Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh.

Springhill Senior Living in Erie has received a Keystone Alliance for Performance Excellence award. KAPE, a non-profit corporation, promotes Pennsylvania competitiveness through a progressive, three-tiered assessment and awards process that encourages and recognizes performance improvements by the state’s public and private organizations.

The Erie SeaWolves beat Harrisburg 3-2 victory in front of 1,495 fans as Erie swept the three game series. Erie is on the road until April 28. The SeaWWolves net site is now live. Check it out. Unlike the old one it’s clean, crisp and informative.

The Allegheny College Playshop Theatre will present “Tartuffe” on April 20, 21, and 22 at 8 pm and April 23 at 2:30 pm in Arter Hall on the Allegheny College campus. Beginning at 2 pm and immediately preceding the performance on April 23 will be an event called the “Groovy 1960s Fashion Show,” featuring men’s and women’s fashions spanning that colorful decade.

Guerrilla Girls On Tour, an internationally acclaimed collective of anonymous feminist actors and comedians, will present “Silence is Violence,” a one-hour performance piece addressing violence against women, at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Thursday, April 20. The event will begin at 7 pm in the Reed Union Building’s McGarvey Commons. It is free and open to the public.

The Allegheny Percussion Ensemble will present a concert on Friday, April 21, at 8:15 pm in the Montgomery Performance Space. The concert is free and open to the public.

Ludacris performs at the Erie Civic Center Tullio Arena on Apr 21. Tickets are still available.

After winter storms pummel the beaches and bring debris, Presque Isle State Park needs your help to get the beaches ready for summer. The 50th annual Presque Isle Spring Cleanup will take place April 22. Volunteers for the day will receive a commemorative patch, lunch, and a chance at some great door prizes. No fee. Registration required, call the park office at (814) 833-7424. Meet at Rotary Pavilion on Presque Isle State Park at 9 am.

5th annual Northwestern Pennsylvania Autism Society of America Walk for Autism
The 5th annual Northwestern Pennsylvania Autism Society of America Walk for Autism will be held on Saturday, April 22 at Presque Isle State Park. Registration begins at 10 am with the walk starting at 11 am from Beach 1. You can print out a Walk Registration Form from here.

A Muslim imam will deliver a guest lecture at Gannon University on Bosnian assimilation and immigration into the United States. The lecture, to be given by Senad Agic, imam of the Islamic Cultural Center of Greater Chicago in Northbrook, Ill., will be held at 7 pm Saturday, April 22, in room 101 of Gannon’s Zurn Science Center, 143 West Seventh St. The International Institute of Erie is supporting the event, which also will feature Bosnian music and folk dancing. It’s time for bird lovers to pack their binoculars, note books and field guides, because the endangered piping plover and the brilliant scarlet tanager, as well as hundreds of other colorful migrating bird species, will be showing off their feathers at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA, during National Wildlife Week (Apr 22-30). Presque Isle State Park is one of the nation’s premier bird watching destinations. The 3,200 acre sandy peninsula arches into Lake Erie and features approximately 320 species of birds in six distinct ecological zones, each with a different plant and animal community.

The Super Bowl Chanpion Pittsburgh Steelers basketball team will play the Penn State Behrend Community All-Stars in a charity game on April 23 at 3 pm at the Behrend Junker Center. Tickets are $5. For more info call the Behrend Men’s Basketball office at (814) 898-7566.

Allegheny College will celebrate Founder’s Day, officially established in 1908 to celebrate the College’s past, present and future, on April 24, 2006. A ceremony commemorating the day will take place at noon in the Campus Center lobby. The ceremony will begin with a welcome by President Richard Cook and include selected readings by students, a senior class gift presentation, a presentation of a Founder’s Day drawing, and the singing of the Alma Mater. The celebration will conclude with a large birthday cake. The celebration is free and open to the public.

The Erie office of Pennsylvania Career Link will hold a job and career fair, the 2006 Erie CareerFair on April 25, 2006 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 West 38th Street, Erie PA.

The concert choir at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will observe Holocaust Remembrance Day with a performance of “Holocaust Cantata: Songs from the Camps.” Cellist Jacqueline Black will join pianist Debbie Hayes to accompany the Behrend choir. The concert will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, April 25, in the Smith Chapel. It is free and open to the public.

Ewabo brings the sweet sounds of the islands to Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, for the final presentation in this year’s Rhythms of Life cultural series. The country’s preeminent steel orchestra will give a free performance at the college from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25. They will appear in Bruno’s Café in the Reed Union Building; listeners are encouraged to purchase or bring a lunch to enjoy.

The Tony Award and Pulitzer prize winning Broadway musical ‘Rent’ plays the Warner Theatre in Erie on Apr 26. Some tickets are still available.

Critically acclaimed historian Thomas Fleming, author of a dozen books on the American Revolution and a distinguished historical novelist, will speak on “Washington’s Secret War” Wednesday, April 26, at 7 pm in Walker Recital Hall at Mercyhurst College. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Andy Dick and Marshall Cook will be at Edinboro for the for the East and North coast premiere of their new movie “Danny Roane: First Time Director” on Thursday April 27. Tickets are free for Edinboro students and $6.50 for the general public. Doors at 7:30 pm at the Louis C Cole Memorial Auditorium with the film starting at 8:30 pm.

Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba along with Ben Lee will play a concert at Gannon University on Thursday, April 27 at 8 pm at Gannon’s Hammermill Center, Peach Street and South Park Row. Tickets for the general public are priced at $15 and can be purchased at the front desk of Gannon’s Waldron Center, 124 West Seventh Street. I don't know about it looking big time but it sure is 100X's better than CyberInks previous version which was god awful.

I especially like how all of the information can easily be found and the site is NOT cluttered. MLB sites suffer from too much clutter.

Nice job by the Martin Group but one suggestion: where's the RSS feed(s)?
