Suburban Molding Company, a plastics plant, in Union City PA was destroyed by a fire on Saturday. Thick, black smoke poured out the building.
Edinboro native Michael Hall has been the Artistic and Managing Director of the Caldwell Theater in Boca Raton FL for the past 31 years. In May, the theater will break ground on a new facility. Hall is currently directing “The Impressionists” at the Caldwell.
An El Canelo Restaurant will open this week in Auburn NY. There are 2 El Canelo’s in the Erie area. A location in Syracuse will open this Summer. The chain operated by the Montes family opened their first restaurant in Worcester, Ohio, in October 1999.
The 5th annual Northwestern Pennsylvania Autism Society of America Walk for Autism held yesterday raised nearly $40,000.
Saturday’s Binghamton Mets game against the Erie SeaWolves was postponed because of rain. It will be made up in August. The B-Mets are scheduled to wrap up their series with Erie on Sunday at 1:30. Miguel Perez (1-0, 2.12) will start for Binghamton against Erie’s Humberto Sanchez (0-1, 1.69).
The fourth ranked Mercyhurst College men’s lacrosse team defeated Number 2 CW Post 10-9. The win was Mercyhurst’s fourth in a row and 10th of the season.
Columbus crused the Erie Illusion women’s football team 71-0.

The Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers basketball team will play the Penn State Behrend Community All-Stars in a charity game today at 3 pm at the Behrend Junker Center. Tickets are $5. Allegheny College will celebrate Founder’s Day, officially established in 1908 to celebrate the College’s past, present and future, on April 24, 2006. A ceremony commemorating the day will take place at noon in the Campus Center lobby. The ceremony will begin with a welcome by President Richard Cook and include selected readings by students, a senior class gift presentation, a presentation of a Founder’s Day drawing, and the singing of the Alma Mater. The celebration will conclude with a large birthday cake. The celebration is free and open to the public.
The Erie office of Pennsylvania Career Link will hold a job and career fair, the 2006 Erie CareerFair on April 25, 2006 from 11 am to 4 pm at the Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 West 38th Street, Erie PA.
The concert choir at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will observe Holocaust Remembrance Day with a performance of “Holocaust Cantata: Songs from the Camps.” Cellist Jacqueline Black will join pianist Debbie Hayes to accompany the Behrend choir. The concert will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, April 25, in the Smith Chapel. It is free and open to the public.
Ewabo brings the sweet sounds of the islands to Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, for the final presentation in this year’s Rhythms of Life cultural series. The country’s preeminent steel orchestra will give a free performance at the college from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25. They will appear in Bruno’s CafĂ© in the Reed Union Building; listeners are encouraged to purchase or bring a lunch to enjoy.
The Tony Award and Pulitzer prize winning Broadway musical ‘Rent’ plays the Warner Theatre in Erie on Apr 26. Some tickets are still available.
Critically acclaimed historian Thomas Fleming, author of a dozen books on the American Revolution and a distinguished historical novelist, will speak on “Washington’s Secret War” Wednesday, April 26, at 7 pm in Walker Recital Hall at Mercyhurst College. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Andy Dick and Marshall Cook will be at Edinboro for the for the East and North coast premiere of their new movie “Danny Roane: First Time Director” on Thursday April 27. Tickets are free for Edinboro students and $6.50 for the general public. Doors at 7:30 pm at the Louis C Cole Memorial Auditorium with the film starting at 8:30 pm.
Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba along with Ben Lee will play a concert at Gannon University on Thursday, April 27 at 8 pm at Gannon’s Hammermill Center, Peach Street and South Park Row. Tickets for the general public are priced at $15 and can be purchased at the front desk of Gannon’s Waldron Center, 124 West Seventh Street.
