Edwin Brown of Corry was found not guilty of assault. He was charged for spanking the six year old child of his fiance. I’m not making this up.
Erie native Beverly Morris heads the National Association of Non Custodial Moms, a nonprofit support and resource group. She and her husband slit up and six years ago he moved from their Florida residence back to Erie. Since most of their family is in the Erie area and her getting custody would have ment long hours in child care, she choose not to prolong the court fight. Morris keeps in close contact with phone calls, emails and visits.
Courtney Sullivan, a St Bonaventure University freshman French and English major from Erie Pa, was recently inducted into the Eta Theta Chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the national French Honor Society for Colleges and Universities.
The Spruce Creek Florida softball team is playing in the state semifinals on Friday. The team is coached by Titusville native Jim Romaniszyn. Romaniszyn played football and basketball at Edinboro. Although a running back in college, he played linebacker in the NFL for the Browns and the New England Patriots from 1973-78.
The Erie SeaWolves lost to Akron 5-1. The two teams play again today at 11 am.
Gannon head men’s basketball coach John Reilly announced the addition of Jason Thompson (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) to the program. Thompson is the fifth student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent to attend Gannon. He joins Brandon Altman (Vienna, Va/James Madison), Preston Harris (Erie, Pa/Cathedral Prep), Mark Demski (Erie, Pa/Cathedral Prep), and Marcus Lemon (Alexandria, Va/TC Williams) as part of Gannon’s 2006 recruiting class.
The Gannon softball team received their second consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament bid and will enter this weekend’s Great Lakes Regional as the No. 2 seed.
Matt Zamperini has been named head football coach at Garden Spot High School in the Lancaster area. The Gannon University grad has spent the last two years as defensive coordinator at Pequea Valley. He also served as an assistant coach at Erie Cathedral Prep for two years and he was a defensive line coach for Gannon for one year.
The American Indoor Football League awarded the Huntington Heroes a forfeit victory over the Canton Legends. The forfeit is a result of Canton using ineligible players. Huntington is now 7-2 in the Northern Conference and a half-game behind division leader Erie. Canton drops to 5-5.
As part of the Erie Broadway Series, “Cats” is playing the Warner Theater tonight.
Lake Erie Speedway will open on Friday May 12.
The late Jonathan Larson, best known as the creator of the stage sensation RENT, wrote only one other musical in his short life “tick, tick… BOOM!” The musical will be performed at the Roadhouse Theater Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm May 12th - July 8th (no shows Memorial Day weekend). Tickets are $10 regular, $12 riser and $15 VIP. Students with ID can see the show for just $5. The 14th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive, Stamp Out Hunger, is Saturday, May 13. Proceeds benefit the which distributes to 245 agencies in the region.
The Technology Council of NWPA Business Information Technology Summit (BITS) will take place at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on May 17.

The Edinboro Highland Games and Scottish Festival will be held in Edinboro May 19-21.

The first cruise-in of 2006 will be held on May 22 at the Park and Ride lot on the Erie Bayfront.
The Tom Ridge Environmental Center will open May 26th. This $31 million, state-of-the-art center will share the treasures of Presque Isle State Park with nature enthusiasts, educators, researchers, tourists and other visitors.
