The Erie media outlets are reporting that the 5 year old kid that fell into the pool at the Glenwood YMCA on Saturday, has been released from the hospital. The child was wearing some some sort of body brace or body cast so she sunk like a stone when she went into the water. I’m wondering why the kid was allowed near the water in the first place.
Jason Harding has been promoted to assistant principal of North Allegheny Intermediate High School. Harding has a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Gannon University in Erie.
Chris Maples hit another walk-off home run as the Erie SeaWolves beat the Reading Phillies 3-1. Erie has now won six straight games. The SeaWolves have a four game road trip and return to town on Friday with a 6:35 pm game with the Altoona Curve.
The first cruise-in of 2006 will be held today at 5 pm at the Park and Ride lot on the Erie Bayfront. There is usually a very high turnout of classic cars at all the cruise-in’s on the bayfront.
The Gannon University Small Business Development Center is holding a entrepreneur seminar for veterans at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center, 7794 Peach St, on Tuesday May 23 at 9 am. This seminar is facilitated by Donn Nemchick, a US Navy Veteran. The seminar is designed for veterans and spouces of veterans looking to start their own business. The cost of the seminar is $15. If two or more people are sharing hand-out materials, the fee is $10 for each aditional person. Please contact Betsy by phone 871-7232.
Charles Bravo, Senior Vice President for Intelligent Mail and Address Quality for the US Postal Service will speak on intelligent mail planning and standards, address management, and the future of business mail. There will be a Bike Night on Friday May 26 along State Street beginning at 5 pm which is sponsored by the Erie Downtown Improvement District.

The Walk for a Healthy Community takes place on Saturday, June 3, at the Liberty Park Pepsi Amphitheater on the Erie bayfront. The walk is underwritten by Highmark so that all money raised can be directed to the 15 Erie area participating health and human service organizations.
The Band Camp for Adult Musicians will enjoy its fifth season at Allegheny College this June. Founded in 1989 by John Fleming, the camp has grown from 17 campers for one week to close to 140 campers split over two weeks for the 2006 season. Week I will be held June 11-16, with Week II running June 25-30. Spots remain for musicians interested in participating in the two weeks of the Adult Band Camp. Any players of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments who are college age or beyond and are interested in attending should call Conference and Event Services at Allegheny College: 814-332-3101.
