Advertising Advantage of Jamestown NY announced they are expanding into Erie, Pa, with Tri-Vision billboards.
US bishops will be asked to approve a new translation of the Order of Mass when they meet in Los Angeles June 15-17. Bishop Donald W Trautman of Erie, Pa is chairman of the USCCB Committee on the Liturgy. Some are referring to him as Traut-person because of his gender neutral stance.
Stephen Heidelberg is a technical director for the entertainment company DreamWorks. He provided tech support and painted background scenes on the film “Over the Hedge.” Heidelberg earned his degree in applied media arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1997.
Edinboro resident, Jamie L Saloff was honored by Pennwriters, Inc. members with their Meritorious Service Award during this year’s annual conference held in Grantville, PA. Saloff is the author of Transformational Healing, Five Surprisingly Simple Keys Designed to Redirect Your Life Toward Wellness, Purpose, and Prosperity.
Sean Casey came through with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the fifth inning and that run stood up as the winner in a 3-1 Altoona Curve victory over the Erie SeaWolves Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. Casey, The Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman was on a 3 day rehab assignment with the Curve. The SeaWolves and Curve play the final game of the four-game set Monday afternoon in Erie. Right-hander Chris Rojas (0-0, 2.45) will take the mound for Altoona against Erie righty Virgil Vasquez (3-4, 4.11). First pitch is set for 1:05 pm.
The Northwestern women’s lacrosse team is on pace to break the school and NCAA record for goals per game. The Wildcats currently average 16.23 per game. The NCAA record is 16.1 set by Gannon University in 1997.
The Family First Sports Park Memorial Day Shootout wraps up today. The Memorial Day Shootout is for premier soccer teams ages U9–U19 and over 220 teams participated in 2006. Scores of college coaches will be on hand to scout players. Every hotel room in Erie County is booked and long waits are expected at the restaurants on upper Peach Street.
Extend your holiday weekend by coming to the Erie Community Blood Bank this Tuesday, May 30, from 11-2pm to enjoy a barbeque hosted by George’s Restaurant. George’s will be supplying their famous “tickle your ribs” platter with all the picnic trimmings. All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. There are 6 hikes scheduled at Presque Isle State Park for Pennsylvania Hiking Week. On Tuesday, it’s a a Creepy Crawlies hike. Meet at the Presque Isle Lighthouse Lot. FREE, no fee, no registration.

The Presque Isle Volleyball Club Tournament will be held on Saturday June 3. Teams for this tournament will have 6 players with at least 2 players of the opposite sex. There are three levels of play: recreational, intermediate, and power. Prizes will be given to the 1st and 2nd place teams in each division. Entry fee is $90 per team. Tournament will take place at Presque Isle State Park Volleyball Facilities at Beach 6. Check in time is 8:30 a.m. and play starts promptly at 9 am. Call Geoff to Pre-Register at (814) 860-8409.
The Walk for a Healthy Community takes place on Saturday, June 3, at the Liberty Park Pepsi Amphitheater on the Erie bayfront. The walk is underwritten by Highmark so that all money raised can be directed to the 15 Erie area participating health and human service organizations.
The Band Camp for Adult Musicians will enjoy its fifth season at Allegheny College this June. Founded in 1989 by John Fleming, the camp has grown from 17 campers for one week to close to 140 campers split over two weeks for the 2006 season. Week I will be held June 11-16, with Week II running June 25-30. Spots remain for musicians interested in participating in the two weeks of the Adult Band Camp. Any players of woodwind, brass or percussion instruments who are college age or beyond and are interested in attending should call Conference and Event Services at Allegheny College: 814-332-3101.
