Anne Majerik of Erie PA was awarded $2.1 million by a jury in LA. Majerik paid $125,000 to Beverly Hills matchmaker Orly Hadida, said she was promised time with “a cultured gentleman” and his “estate of up to $20 million.” She said all she got were a few introductions to some inappropriate men. Majerik, 60, was said to be a social worker in Erie.

Former Gov Tom Ridge of Erie, who also served as the country’s first Director of Homeland Security, traveled to several Pennsylvania cities including Philadelphia, Scranton, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Erie with Republican gubernatorial candidate Lynn Swann yesterday.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett will hold a news conference at 11 am today to announce the results of a year-long intensive crackdown on methamphetamine production and trafficking in northwestern Pennsylvania. The event will be at the Audrey Hirt Center, Mercyhurst College, 501 East 38th St, Erie. Corbett will be joined by Erie County District Attorney Brad Foulk, Crawford County District Attorney Francis Schultz and other law enforcement officials throughout the region.
On Tuesday night, the Bowie Baysox had three pitchers combine on a one-hit shutout of the Erie SeaWolves. The two teams continue their series in Bowie tonight at 7:05 pm.
Karns City hurdler Mark Ferguson will attend Penn State Behrend. Ferguson finished fourth in the Class AA boys 300-meter hurdles and sixth in the 110 hurdles last weekend.
Formore NBA point guard Charlie Ward will hold a boys basketball camp for grades 5th-12th at Family First Sports Park in Erie July 9-13. The former Heisman Trophy winner, at Florida State University, he has embraced his responsibility both as an athlete and a role model, giving back unselfishly to the young athletes who aspire to follow him into the NBA.
The 2006 Eastern National Horseshoe Tournament will be held in Erie PA June 23-25 at the Kuchcinski Family Courts. Entry deadline is June 6.
There are hikes scheduled at Presque Isle State Park for Pennsylvania Hiking Week. Today, it’s a birding hike with the start taking place at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, Room 108, at 8:30 am. All hikes are FREE, no fee, no registration. Thursday is the Shifting Sands Hike and the meet takes place at the Gull Point Trailhead at 10 am. Friday is the Edible Plant Hike. Meet at the Lighthouse parking lot at 10 am. Saturday is the Bike Hike at the Cookhouse Parking Lot at 10:30 am.

The Presque Isle Volleyball Club Tournament will be held on Saturday June 3. Teams for this tournament will have 6 players with at least 2 players of the opposite sex. There are three levels of play: recreational, intermediate, and power. Prizes will be given to the 1st and 2nd place teams in each division. Entry fee is $90 per team. Tournament will take place at Presque Isle State Park Volleyball Facilities at Beach 6. Check in time is 8:30 a.m. and play starts promptly at 9 am. Call Geoff to Pre-Register at (814) 860-8409.
The Walk for a Healthy Community takes place on Saturday, June 3, at the Liberty Park Pepsi Amphitheater on the Erie bayfront. The walk is underwritten by Highmark so that all money raised can be directed to the 15 Erie area participating health and human service organizations.
