Two kids from Harborcreek Youth Services carjacked a van from their counselor on Saturday. Police caught them shortly afterwards. The pair faces of long list of charges.

LECOM, The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has named Kasandra Botti, DO, an emergency physician at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, as 2006 Emergency Physician of the Year. She attended medical school at Lake Erie Medical College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Erie.

Akron scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat the Erie SeaWolves 6-4. The SeaWolves conclude the homestand with the Akron Aeros (Cleveland Indians) today at 1:05 pm. The game is nearly sold out with only standing room tickets available.

Sysco Foods will sponsor this weeks event at Bobby Rohrer’s Eriez Speedway. There will be racing in all seven divisions. The Spectator division will feature a $300 to win Championship race. Gates will open at 4:30 pm with racing starting promptly at 6 pm.

Laurie (Machuga) Grile, Kim (Huber) Cook, Carol (Frederick) Devlin and the 1981 men’s tennis team will be inducted Sunday into the Allegheny College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Lauren Knupp of Somerset has signed a national letter of intent to attend Edinboro University and swim for the Fighting Scots.

Nicolle DiRaimo of Erie Villa Maria Academy has signed a leter of intent to play basketball at Florida Southern College.

Today is Fish for Free in Pennsylvania. No fishing license is required to fish on Pennsylvania’s waterways on today. All other fishing regulations still apply.

The late Jonathan Larson, best known as the creator of the stage sensation RENT, wrote only one other musical in his short life “tick, tick… BOOM!” The musical will be performed at the Roadhouse Theater Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm through July 8th. Tickets are $10 regular, $12 riser and $15 VIP. Students with ID can see the show for just $5. Reservations can be made by phone at 814-456-5656 or in person at the Theatre Box Office 145 West 11th Street. Box Office hours are 2-6 PM Tuesday - Saturday.

“Fiddler on the Roof” will be performed at the Erie Playhouse June 8-11, 14-18, 22-25. For tickets and info call (814) 454-2852.

Over 5,000 bikers are expected in Erie on Saturday June 10 to raise awareness and support for US troops serving in the Iraq war and for the Western Pennsylvania Families of Fallen Heroes Foundation. The Memorial and Honor Ride will take place from Lyndora to Erie. For details, contact Stan Frankel at (724) 265-3904.

The first Erie Downtown block party of the season takes place Thursday June 15 at 7 pm on the 1300 block of State Street in front of Calamari’s Squid Row and The papermoon Restaurant. Music by Soul Clap. The event is FREE. Food and beverages will be available.

Thurston Classic Hot Air Balloon Show takes place June 15-18 at Robertson Field on the campus of Allegheny College. Hot air balloon event featuring 30 balloons and a Night Glow with 10 balloons. Food, beverages and souvenirs available. Night glow Thurs, June 15 at dusk (approx 9 pm); gates open at 7:30 pm. Launches: Friday and Saturday at 6 pm. Fly-Ins: Saturday and Sunday at 7 am. The 2006 Erie Summer Festival of the Arts takes place June 22-25 at Liberty Park. This year’s fesl features demonstrating artists, crafters, a song contest, award winning children’s area, ethnic foods, student video and digital media competition, juried panorama art show, computer intruction programs for children and adults as well as strolling musicians.

The Peek n’ Peak Classic takes place June 26 – July 2. The Golf Channel will provide live coverage of the Nationwide Tour event.
