There was a high speed chase through the city on Wednesday involving a man who exposed himself. A shooting, yeah, chase the suspect. But for a lewd act? It was just luck that not kids riding bikes or playing in the street were seriously hurt. Here is the Erie newspaper story on the incident. And I saw on the news this morning that the man attempted to take his life while in jail.
“(Grace) McClelland came to Detroit from Erie, Pennsylvania, where she said she was fired from her position as executive director of Harbor Creek Youth Services for being a lesbian.”

McClelland was CEO of Harborcreek Youth Services from about 2000-2003. McClelland will most likely be returning to Erie in the near future for the lawsuit that will likely result from her statement.
Lynn Swann’s biggest single donor was Samuel Black III Of Erie Insurance who contributed $200,000 to Swann’s campaign for Pennsylvania governor.
Rebecca Hart of Erie, PA, and Nordkap, her 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding received the high score of the day at 71.666 percent on the Para-Equestrian Team Test during the opening day of the USET Foundation Dressage Festival of Champions.
Sandy O’Brien, who has served 3 terms as Ashtabula county auditor, is the Republican candidate for Ohio state treasurer. O’Brien holds a master’s degree in school administration from Edinboro University.
The Erie SeaWolves scored the winning run on a 2 out wild pitch in the eighth inning last night to beat the Reading Phillies 5-4. The SeaWolves play Harrisburg at 7:05 pm in downtown Erie.
Iroquois faces Blue Ridge in the state PIAA Class A softball championship game at 10 am and Harbor Creek plays Lakeland in the state PIAA Class AA softball championship game at 3 pm. The games can be seen on the PCN Network in Erie County. The games will not be seen in the City of Erie because of bastards of Erie Time-Warner won’t carry the channel.
Scott Mathieson of the Reading Phillies worked out at the Erie Downtown YMCA. When he got back to the Avalon Hotel he had 2 messages from Philadelphia. The message all minor leaguers want to get. The call up to the majors. Mathieson will be the starting pitcher for the Philadelpha Phillies against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Saturday.
Reading beat Huntington 56-23 in the first round of the AIFL’s Northern Conference playoffs. Reading will play the winner of the Erie Freeze and Canton game for the Northern Conference title and berth in the AIFL championship game.
Corey Shemelya, a physics major at Allegheny College, recently took medalist honors at one of the four qualifiers for the West Penn Amateur at the Lake Shore Country Club in Erie.

The late Jonathan Larson, best known as the creator of the stage sensation RENT, wrote only one other musical in his short life “tick, tick… BOOM!” The musical will be performed at the Roadhouse Theater Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm through July 8th. The Sprint Presque Isle State Park Sunset Concert Series takes place Wednesdays from June 21-July 26 from 6:30 pm to sunset. Admission is free. Dr Roger Knacke, director of the School of Science and professor of physics and astronomy at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will host a Summer Night in Astronomy event on Thursday, June 22. Knacke will speak on “Jupiter, The Giant Planet” beginning at 8:30 pm in 101 Behrend Science Building. Weather permitting, astronomical viewing from the college’s Mehalso Observatory will follow from 9:30 until 11 pm. The 2006 Erie Summer Festival of the Arts takes place June 22-25 at Liberty Park. This year’s fesl features demonstrating artists, crafters, a song contest, award winning children’s area, ethnic foods, student video and digital media competition, juried panorama art show, computer intruction programs for children and adults as well as strolling musicians.
During the 1920s and early 1930s, commercial fishermen along the Lake Erie shore unloaded thousands of pounds of a cargo they called “midnight herring.” These “herring” weren’t pickled, but the people who bought the precious cargo surely were. “Midnight herring” was alcohol smuggled across the lake from Canada during Prohibition. This colorful era is recalled at the Erie County History Center with an exhibit called Midnight Herring, a cooperative venture between the History Center and the Port Dover Harbour Museum. It opens June 23. Through photographs, objects and memorabilia, the exhibit brings the colorful characters of the era – the Semple family, the Sisters of St. Benedict and Westfield Jimmy – to life. The exhibit opens in conjunction with the publication of Dr David Frew’s newest book about the cross-lake traffic in contraband, also titled “Midnight Herring” (the cover of which was designed by Eric Armbruster of Bensur Creative).
Performing in Erie on June 25th, 2006, Tanglefoot, Lake Erie’s most exciting maritime musical group, will perform In conjunction with the Midnight Herring exhibit opening and book release, Tanglefoot returns to Erie after ten-year absence to celebrate the Erie County History Center annual History Makers event. The Peek n’ Peak Classic takes place June 26 – July 2. The Golf Channel will provide live coverage of the Nationwide Tour event.
