Kayley M Brabender, a graduate of Villa Maria Academy in Erie, took second place in the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities’ annual High School Senior Essay Scholarship contest.

The 2006 Erie Summer Festival of the Arts at Liberty Park wraps up today. The crowds have been huge. Stop by if you haven’t already. This year’s fest features demonstrating artists, crafters, a song contest, award winning children’s area, ethnic foods, student video and digital media competition, juried panorama art show, computer intruction programs for children and adults as well as strolling musicians.

The Bowie Baysox beat the Erie SeaWolves 7-0 in a game shortened to 6 1/3 innings due to rain. Erie and Bowie will meet two more times in Maryland with the Sunday game at 6:05 and the Monday game at 7:05.

The East beat the West 20-14 at the sixth annual Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association’s East-West All-Star Game. Javon Rowan of Erie Cathedral Prep led the West with three catches for a game-high 99 yards.

Larry Lahnan won the ADGA’s Nick Anthe Stroke-Play Championship at Lake Forest Country Club in Hudson, Ohio. Lahnan is a native of Erie, Pa, who moved to NE Ohio 20 years ago.

The United Hockey League is looking to add 2 new teams. The areas mentioned are southwestern New York (Dunkirk, Jamestown or Olean), northwestern Pennsylvania (Erie or Meadville), or northern Ohio (Akron, Ashtabula, Canton, Mansfield or Sandusky).

Performing in Erie today, Tanglefoot, Lake Erie’s most exciting maritime musical group, will perform In conjunction with the Midnight Herring exhibit opening and book release, Tanglefoot returns to Erie after ten-year absence to celebrate the Erie County History Center annual History Makers event. Here’s the line up for the 8 Great Tuesdays free concerts at the Liberty Park Pepsi Ampitheater. All concerts begin at 6:30 pm and end around 9 pm. July 11 - The Gem City All Stars, July 18 - Jakes Blues and Blue Fire, July 25 - The Yardbirds, August 1 - Key West Express, August 8 - Jefferson Starship/Jefferson Airplane “Galactic Reunion Tour 2006”, August 15 - Dave Stevens Big Band, August 22 - The Fabulous Gunslingers, August 29 - Rick Derringer. Eight Great Tuesdays is the free concert series produced by the Erie - Western PA Port Authority.

The 2006 Erie Airshow will be on Saturday and Sunday, July 15-16, 2006. The Air Show will be held at Erie International Airport, Tom Ridge Field. The schedule of performances and static display aircraft present will be the same each day, so you can attend either day and see the same great show. Gates will open each day at 10 am with the flying portion of the airshow will begin at noon each day.
