Former City of Erie Finance Director Chuck Herron has your social security number, tax records, employer information and income information for all people that lived or worked in Erie in 1999. This is what the thief Chuck Herron stole from the city when he was fired. The white collar criminal Herron used those records to set up Municipal Revenue Services, a tax collection consulting business. The State Ethics Commission ruled that taking those confidential records was illegal and he must return them and pay a fine of $8,000. Municipal Revenue Services is one of the companies that had bid on the City of Erie possible selling their tax liens.

Willie J Brown of Erie PA was arrested in Orange County, New York on a fugitive from justice warrant. Prosecutors said that Brown’s fingerprints match the prints of the escapee from an Alabama prison camp on Aug 30 1961 - 45 years ago. Brown is in his 80’s.

Lisa S is trying to find someone that remembers the Camp Kateri song. In the mid 60’s, Camp Notre Dame bought the Kateri property and Camp Kateri ceased to be.

Penn State’s Board of Trustees Friday approved the final plans to add a two-floor lecture hall to the Research and Economic Development Center (REDC) at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The new lecture hall plans call for a two-floor facility adjacent to the REDC building on Jordan Road. The design by Weber Murphy Fox of Erie will be carefully integrated into the sloping site near the woods to the east, explained Gary C Schultz, senior vice president for finance and business/treasurer of the University. The main level of the lecture hall will be accessed from the central corridor of the existing REDC building. It will include the entry foyer, pre-function mezzanine and 200-seat lecture hall. Doors at the top of the lecture hall will open to an outdoor patio. The lower floor of the lecture hall building will be connected to the ground floor of the REDC. This floor will hold the lower front portion of the lecture hall, an office and storage and mechanical spaces.

Edward Landau has been sworn in as the new Mission Director to USAID/ Albania. The USAID program in Albania encompasses economic and agricultural development, health care, social reform and legal reform. Mr Landau is a Foreign Service Officer who most recently served as the USAID Deputy Mission Director for Bolivia. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Mr Landau is married to Sharon Landau and has two sons. Landau holds a BA in International Politics from Penn State and a Masters of Public Administration from George Washington.

The Altoona Curve lost their second straight game to the Erie SeaWolves Friday night, falling 3-2, in front of 7,872 fans at Blair County Ballpark.

New Jersey Devils forward Mike Rupp will be signing autographs at the Erie Youth Hockey Association Player Registration being held today at JMC Ice Arena. Rupp will be on hand between 11 am and noon to sign autographs. Rupp never did leave the area after he left the Otters. He has a house in Cambridge Springs.

It’s Monster Truck Mania weekend at Lake Erie Speedway. Come and see the legendary Big Foot take on other monster trucks as well as stunt bike performances. Saturday, July 15th the gates will open at 6 pm with the show beginning at 8 pm. Sunday, July 16th the gates will open at 11 am and the show begins at 1 pm. Admission will be $15 for Adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

The Outlaw Cadets will be in the spotlight at Eriez Speedway this Sunday as they will be featured in a Championship race. Erie’s Joe Weber is the Outlaw Cadet leader with Kennedy’s John Cline second followed by Paul Norman Jr., Gerry, Phil Knight, Ripley and Louis DeDionisio, Erie. All of the divisions will be competing this Sunday but the Spectator and E-Mod divisions will earn no points for the night. This was done to allow competitors to schedule a vacation without affecting their race for the Eriez Point Championship. Gates will open at 4:30 PM with racing starting promptly at 6 pm.

The 61st annual North East Fireman’s Cherry Festival in North East PA wraps up today.

The Jazz Erie 2006 Jazz and Blues Walk will be held today. This years festival of jazz music will feature twelve bands playing at downtown venues. Price of admission is a $10 button which are availableat the participating bars.

The Director’s Circle Theater located in the Renaissance Center at 10th and State Streets in Erie presents “Hush Up Sweet Charlotte.” Directed by Michael Weiss. Show times are Thursday-Saturday at 8 pm through August 5. For more details call 814-451-1153.

The Roadhouse Theatre is presenting a very special program this summer featuring our very own Queen of Jazz Mary Alice Brown. Mary Alice Brown stars in “Class is in Session” Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, July 14th – August 26th. (Sat July 15th is sold out.) The show will focus on Mary’s life’s work in four sections (with wardrobe changes!) The evening will begin with Mary at a fire-engine red grand piano playing le Clair de Lune. We will traverse through stylings of jazz, blues, calypso and finish with the very best of Mary Alice Brown. The 2006 Erie Airshow will be held today and Sunday, July 15-16, 2006. The Air Show will be held at Erie International Airport, Tom Ridge Field. The schedule of performances and static display aircraft present will be the same each day, so you can attend either day and see the same great show. Gates will open each day at 10 am with the flying portion of the airshow will begin at noon each day.

The 2006 Presque Isle Half Marathon will be held Sunday, July 16, 2006 at 7:30 am.

The 3rd annual Key West Fest will be held July 21-22 at Liberty Park. The great Jimmy Buffet tribute band Key West Express and Peter Mayer Group will perform.

Gannon University will co-host a summer camp for youth who enjoy nature and outdoor activities.The Junior Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camp (JNOAC) also will be hosted by Presque Isle State Park and Family First Sports Park. The adventure camp is designed for children ages 8-12 and will run Monday-Friday, July 24-28. The camp will be held at Presque Isle State Park and will allow participants to explore the outdoors, learn team building skills, and challenge themselves by engaging in fun adventures and activities. The camp is presented by the Gannon University Continuing Education and Computer Training Center. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and is encouraged by Friday, July 14. The summer sky will be the topic of the next Summer Open House Night in Astronomy at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. Roger Knacke, professor of physics and astronomy and director of the college’s School of Science, will present “Summer Stars and the Milky Way” at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, in 101 Otto Behrend Science Building. This Summer Open House Night in Astronomy is free and open to the public. It is a non-technical presentation for ages 6 and older. For more information, call the School of Science at 814-898-6105.


Discover Presque Isle will be held July 28-30, 2006. Presque Isle State Park flourishes with activity during this annual event. The weekend encompasses one of the area’s largest craft shows, volleyball tournament, duathlon, mile swim, sand soccer, food vendors, extensive children’s area, sand sculptures, bonfires on the beach, live music and so much more.

Here’s some info on a great new Erie area event. The Guelcher Film Series at the Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park, aka Movies in the Park - The Biggest Stars Under The Stars. Movies will begin at 9 pm. Here is a tentative list of films.

Scooters is hosting the 1st annual Motorcycles 4 Meals poker run to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of NW PA on August 12, 2006.
