Psilos Group Partners? Who? Pennsylvania Gov Fast Eddie Rendell announced a $5 million grant to Psilos Group Partners of Erie County, a venture capital firm, to invest in early, mid-stage and later-stage healthcare companies.
All but two of the six defendants in a fatal central Pennsylvania motor vehicle accident case have agreed to a $2 million settlement in Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. The remaining defendants in the continuing case are US Bulk Transport, Inc and US Transportation Services, Inc, two related corporations headquartered in Erie, Pa which brokered the load to Stewart Transport. They have admitted performing no background investigation of Stewart Transport and failing to review SAFER, a federal trucking safety data base. “SAFER,” says attorney Barrett “clearly identified Stewart as a substandard firm that represented a foreseeable safety risk to the public.”
Penn State Erie, The Behrend College announced that it’s freshman class in the Fall will be over 1,000 students.
An interview with writer/Director’s Tom Mattera and David Mazzoni of the Cinevegas Film Festival hit “The 4th Dimension” has been posted on TheFilmChair.com. The interview is part of a monthly TheFilmChair.com section called “indie interviews.” TheFilmChair.com is an Erie, Pa.based website that specializes in reviews and previews of the studio films in theatres every weekend, local film news and interviews with the hit filmmakers of tomorrow.
Edinboro Borough Municipal Authority received a PENNVEST $565,500 loan to replace 1,907 feet of sewage collection lines and nine manholes along Maple Drive and Chestnut Street to eliminate surcharging in the collection system that occurs during heavy rains.
NanoInk announced the appointment of Robert J Janosky as the Company’s president and chief operating officer. Janosky brings over 35 years of operational experience most recently serving as vice president, manufacturing at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company. Prior, Janosky was vice president, manufacturing at Warner Lambert. He received his BS in Science and Chemistry from Gannon University.
Bowie beat the Erie SeaWolves 7-0. The SeaWolves take on the Bowie Baysox today with a special game time of 12:05 pm on UPMC Senior Health Plan Day. The Dixie Doodlers will be playing their sweet Dixieland sound prior to the game in downtown Erie.
The Vancouver Canucks announced that Barry Smith has been named an assistant coach. Smith spent four seasons with the Erie Panthers (ECHL) as both an Assistant Coach (1992-95) and Head Coach (1995-96).
Mike Melega has been named GM of the Tulsa Drillers, a Texas League Double A team. His first baseball job was as an intern with the Erie Sailors of the New York-Penn League.
The Duke Sherman Blues Band performs today, Wednesday, July 19 at 6:30 pm at Presque Isle State Park Beach 1 for this weeks Sprint Sunset Music Series. The concert is free.

Gannon University will co-host a summer camp for youth who enjoy nature and outdoor activities.The Junior Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camp (JNOAC) also will be hosted by Presque Isle State Park and Family First Sports Park. The adventure camp is designed for children ages 8-12 and will run Monday-Friday, July 24-28. The camp will be held at Presque Isle State Park and will allow participants to explore the outdoors, learn team building skills, and challenge themselves by engaging in fun adventures and activities. The camp is presented by the Gannon University Continuing Education and Computer Training Center. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and is encouraged by Friday, July 14. The summer sky will be the topic of the next Summer Open House Night in Astronomy at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. Roger Knacke, professor of physics and astronomy and director of the college’s School of Science, will present “Summer Stars and the Milky Way” at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, in 101 Otto Behrend Science Building. Scooters is hosting the 1st annual Motorcycles 4 Meals poker run to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of NW PA on August 12, 2006.
