Papa Advertising (annoying all Flash website, therefore I won’t post the link) has received certification as a National Yellow Pages Services firm, becoming the only NYPS agency based in northwestern Pennsylvania and one of just 200 nationwide. Directing the new service is Lou Harris, Papa’s manager of directory and online marketing. Presently, Papa Advertising, a full service marketing communications agency based in Erie, manages advertising in more than 350 yellow pages directories in seven states.
Mary Ann Daniels, head of Mercer County Children and Youth Services, has resigned to pursue a doctorate in child psychology at Gannon University.
Dr James Pesek will be the interim dean of the Clarion University of Pennsylvania College of Business Administration for the next two years. At one time he taught at Mercyhurst College in Erie.
The Penn State Behrend Alumni Society currently is taking orders for its 2006 University Creamery ice cream sale, “A Taste of Penn State.” The order deadline is August 7 and all proceeds will benefit the Penn State Behrend Alumni Society Scholarship. Orders can be picked up on Saturday, August 26, between 10 am and 1 pm at the Intermodal Transportation Complex, located at the Bayfront Highway and Holland Street. Ed O’Herron passed away. His mother, Sally, was a daughter of Erie, Pa, drugstore owner J Milton Eckerd. O’Herron himself owned a big chunk of Eckerd Drugs before JC Penney’s bought the chain. He served three terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives and lost a bid for .North Carolina Governor.
OK, this is bugging the heck out of me. Here’s the search phrase: city of erie pa individual property listings for reassessment. There is no list. Zero properties will be reassessed. The last reassessment was done on 2000. Another reassessment is not planned. And if another one is done, the county would do it. Why the confusion?
The Erie SeaWolves beat Bowie 13-2. Kirkland, Melian, Maples, Clevlen and Sanchez all hit home runs for Erie. The two teams play a doubleheader today in Bowie.
The Erie Otters Hockey School runs from August 22nd-26th at the Tullio Arena. Each session is one-and-a-half hours in length at the Tullio Arena and is run by new Otters Head Coach Peter Sidorkiewicz, in consultation with the registered team’s head coach. Learn the basics or work on individual parts of the game that need professional direction. Team Camp Sessions are $350 each and only a limited number of opportunities remain available. A limited number of individual openings remain for the Otters Hockey School featuring Mike Rupp of the New Jersey Devils and select members of the Otters. House League and Elite Training and Conditioning Camps are available. The School is open to all players born between 1991-2000. The 68th annual Erie Lions Club Save an Eye Football Game will be played tonight at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium, 26th and State Streets. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm.

Gannon University’s Schuster Theatre presents the 3rd Annual Shakespeare Summer Nights. “The Merry Wives of Windsor” will be performed on July 28 at 7 pm, “Romeo and Juliet” will be performed July 29 and 30 at 7 pm, and “Words, Words, Words” by David Ives, based on Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” will be performed July 28 and 29 at 6:30 pm preceding the mainstage productions. All performances are FREE and open to the public. Performances are outdoor in A.J.’s Way on the campus of Gannon University (between West 7th and West 8th and Peach and Sassafras Streets, just south of the Gannon arch over West 7th Street).

The 14th annual Erie Art Museum Blues and Jazz Festival takes place at Frontier Park Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6, with an exceptional lineup of national and regional acts. The Festival is free, and takes place rain or shine.
Scooters is hosting the 1st annual Motorcycles 4 Meals poker run to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of NW PA on August 12, 2006. Registration starts at 9 am at the Food Bank, 1703 Ash Street with the first bike leaving at Noon. There will be FREE food, FREE music, Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle at Scooters (last stop). Regarding Discover Presque Isle this weekend, I think it's worth noting that visitors will be able to tour the tower of the lighthouse (76 steps)...which, unfortunately, is usually quite off limits. Tour hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, accord to the Discover Presque Isle website.
