Presque Isle Downs in Erie PA
“Money, guns and lawyers. Once you have that, you have everything. It’s all you need in life.” That’s a quote from MTR Gaming CEO Ted Arneault in today’s Cleveland Plain Dealer. The paper interviewed him about Presque Isle Downs in Erie and his other tracks and casinos. Presque Isle Downs, now under construction at a cost of $220 million, will have 2,000 slot machines along with thoroughbred horse racing.

The lingering blood shortage in our region worsened Wednesday just as the Erie Community Blood Bank is preparing its final push to make it through the Labor Day Weekend. The number of donors has started to drop off as people try to enjoy the last 2 weeks of summer, but blood usage at area hospitals remains steady, squeezing an already low blood supply down to dangerous levels. “The end is in sight!” said Dan Desrochers Director of Public Relations at the blood bank; “Labor Day is one of the worst three weekends of the year for the blood supply and we need to be ready.” The “Back To School” promotion continues with donors all week entering to win a 3-month membership to Nautilus Fitness and Racquet Club and a back to school make over from Ambridge Rose Spa and Salon. All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. Community Blood Bank is open from 9-6 Monday through Friday and until 7:30 pm Tuesday night and Saturday 9 am -12:30 pm. Photo ID required.
