The Erie City Water Authority $87,620,000 variable rate demand revenue bonds series 2006 has been rated AAA by Fitch Ratings.
The Reason for our Hope Foundation has just launched their webiste. Fr Larry Richards is the founder and president of The Reason for our Hope Foundation. Ordained to the priesthood in 1989 for the Diocese of Erie, Fr Larry Richards serves as pastor of St Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community in Erie. He is also the Spiritual Director of the TEC (To Encounter Christ) Retreat Program for the Diocese of Erie. He attended the college seminary at Gannon University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling in 1983.
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) will perform at the Erie Civic Center Tullio Arena on Friday November 10 at 8 pm. Tickets will go on sale to fan club members on Sept 12, and will be available to the general public starting on Sept 15.
The Erie Otters only Tullio Arena pre-season game takes place tonight when the Toronto St Michael’s Majors pay a visit. The two team skated to a 4-4 tie last night in Toronto. General admission tickets for the game are only $4.99 for all seats and are on sale at all Erie area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office. The Otters announced that they have traded Jordan Nolan and a 10th round pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection to the Windsor Spitfires in exhange for Windsor’s third round choice in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection and a fifth round pick the 2008 OHL Priority Selection. Nolan, the Otters third round choice in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection, played 33 games for the Otters during the 2005-2006 season scoring three goals and four assists for seven points.

The 86th annual Spartansburg Community Fair is being held now through September 9 2006. Spartansburg is about 10 miles South of Corry PA. There is a huge parade on Saturday morning at 11 am and a HUGE fireworks display Saturday night at 11:15 pm.
A musical based on a story in the Weekly World News, “Bat Boy: The Musical” flies its way back onto the Roadhouse Theatre’s stage. The original Erie production of this raucous show received rave reviews, including a cover story of the Erie Times-News Showcase supplement and being listed as “Best Bat Boy Outside A Dugout” by the 2006 Best of Erie Guide. Opening night performance is Friday Sept 8th at 8 pm with a reception following. All tickets are $10 with students at $7. Reservations can be made by phone at 814-456-5656 or in person at the Roadhouse Theatre 145 West 11th Street. Box Office hours are 2-6 PM Tuesday - Saturday. Recommended for mature audiences.
The 6th annual Highmark Triathlon will be held Saturday, September 9 at 9 am at Presque Isle State Park. All segments of the triathlon the swim, the bike ride, and the run will start, finish and transition at the Beach 6 area. Proceeds from the Highmark Triathlon will benefit the Highmark Caring Place, Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force, Neighborhood Art House and the Presque Isle Partnership.
The Erie Marathon will be held at Presque Isle State Park Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 7:30 am. The start/finish is in the Rotary Pavilion Area (approximately 3 miles from park entrance) and the loop course will be run primarily on Presque Isle State Park. This marathon is quite possibly the flattest course in the country. World records were recently set on this course in 2003 and 2005. It is certainly a Boston qualifier and has a course record prime to be broken:

Gannon University’s Schuster Art Gallery will open its 2006-07 season, A Lifelong Journey, with an exhibit featuring the acrylic paintings of local artist Roy Ahlgren. The exhibit will be on display through Sept 29, with an opening reception to be held from 3-5 pm Sunday, Sept 10. Schuster Gallery is located on the third floor of Gannon’s Nash Library, 619 Sassafras Street. All gallery events are free and open to the public during regular library hours.
The 20-member Gem City Jazz Ensemble will provide entertainment for the Millcreek Mall’s “Fall Bridal Show” event on Sunday September 10th, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm on the Center Stage. Under the direction of Tim McKinney, the jazz ensemble will perform many great jazz standards and big band favorites, including Bandstand Boogie, Moondance, St. Louis Blues, Moten Swing, and many more. The Northwest PA Commission will be holding a seminar on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) on September 13 at the Warren Holiday Inn. Cost is $35 and the deadline to register is Sept 6. For many businesses, RFID will soon be mandatory. Click here for brochure/registration form.

Former Mecyhurst College basketball great Brent Swain is organizing a Mercyhurst Laker Alumni Basketball Game which is scheduled for September 9 at 7 pm in the Mercyhurst Athletics Center (MAC)..
Barbara Hurd will open the 2006 Creative Writer’s Speaker Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, with a reading on Thursday, Sept 14. Hurd’s reading will begin at 6 pm in the worship space of the Smith Chapel. A reception for her at 4:30 pm in the chapel living room will precede her appearance; both are free and open to the public. Hurd is the author of two literary nonfiction books, Stirring the Mud: On Swamps, Bogs, and Human Imagination, which was named a Los Angeles Times Best Book of 2001, and Entering the Stone: On Caves and Feeling Through the Dark, and a book of poetry, Objects in This Mirror.
Soprano Kyoung Cho will perform with the Erie Chamber Orchestra in their first concert of the 2006-07 Music Season on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 7:30 pm at St Patrick’s Church,130 East 4th Street. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Erie Irish Festival will be held September 15-17 at Rainbow Gardens on the grounds of Waldameer Park. Adult daily admission $2; all weekend only $3. Children under 16 admitted free.
The Scions Of Britain Car Club (the SOB’s) will hold their 14th annual ‘All British Car Gathering’ meet at the Gazebo Park in Waterford, Pa, about 12 miles South of Erie, on September 17 from noon to 4 pm The event is informal - no vendors, no judging, no fee - drive it, drag it, or just talk about it kind of event. Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month with a lunchtime presentation of traditional South American Andes music and dance. Inca Son will perform on Tuesday, September 19, beginning at 12:15 pm in the Reed Union Building’s Bruno’s Cafe. The concert, part of the college’s Rhythms of Life cultural series, is free and open to the public; a full lunch menu will be available for purchase.
