Grand River Village, Ohio Mayor Chris Conley will be Columbus today to hear that a proposal to bring an international ferry terminal to the village is viable. Conley expects state and federal grants of $50 million which should attract an additional $150 million to $250 million in private investment. The village would build docks for three ferries capable of transporting 60 semis each to a ferry terminal at Port Burwell, Ontario. The Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority have been talking about cargo ferry service to Nanticoke, Ontario.
Jack Tirak in Erie Media-Go-Round posted that Erie is getting a new AM radio station. The call sign will be WCXJ. The station is expected to be on the air before any local TV station broadcasts in high definition.

United Refining Company in Warren has to be at lest a little concerned about having the Citgo name on their 70 plus Country Fair stores. There might not be a full blown boycott of Citgo in this area but people are thinking twice before filling up after the remarks Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made at the United Nations. Citgo is the Venezuela state owned oil company.
Ashtabula (OH) County administrator Joe Pedro announced he is retiring. Pedro earned his bachelors from Gannon University in Erie and a Masters from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Gannon University students will be at Wayne Middle School, 650 East Ave, today as part of Western Region Service Day. Gannon has chosen “Believe in Opportunity” as the theme of its participation. Western Region Service Day is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Black Conference on Higher Education, Inc. (PBCOHE). During the Service Day, colleges and universities in western Pennsylvania visit schools in their communities and encourage the students, particularly minority and underrepresented students, to stay in school and to view higher education as a realistic option. Gannon students will interact with four classes of eighth graders - approximately 90 students - at Wayne. The Gannon students will share with their younger counterparts their educational experiences and personal choices related to careers and academic majors.
Penn State Behrend took three straight games (30-8, 30-16, 30-26) for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) win over Hilbert College in women’s volleyball action. The league leading Lions improve to 13-0 (2-0) with the win.
Tim Connolly, who played for the Erie Otters, is still recovering from a concussion and won’t be playing for the Buffalo Sabres until at least November. Connolly missed an entire season with an earlier consussion.
The Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association has Erie Cathedral Prep ranked 3rd in the state among big schools in its latest boys rankings.
“Dining Room” by AR Gurney will be performed at the Gannon University Schuster Theatre Thur-Sun, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 and Thur-Sat, Oct. 5-7. “Bat Boy: The Musical” (based on a story in the Weekly World News) is now playing at the Roadhouse Theatre. First produced by the Roadhouse Theatre in 2005, the original Erie production of this raucous show received rave reviews. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm, through October 21st. Tickets are $10 with students at $7. Reservations can be made by phone at 814-456-5656 or in person at the Roadhouse Theatre 145 West 11th Street. Box Office hours are 2-6 PM Tuesday - Saturday. Recommended for mature audiences.

Big plans are in place highlighting the adventures of Lewis and Clark at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) and Presque Isle State Park this weekend, September 30- October 1, 2006. Fun activities and programs for all ages have been coordinated by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Presque Isle Partnership to provide a better understanding of what Lewis and Clark may have encountered during their adventurous days. Activities will include a Lewis and Clark Family Scavenger Hunt, Big Green Screen Trivia Contest, Campfire Songs, Arts and Crafts Programs, Camp Adventure Program and Lagoon Pontoon Boat Rides. The Sunset Cafe will have featured specials for everyone to enjoy. People can experience the National Geographic Lewis and Clark, A Great Journey West film firsthand on the 45 foot wide, 4-story high Big Green Screen to top off the weekend. Special theater packages will be offered all weekend. Test out your survival skills inside or out! The Lewis and Clark Family Scavenger Hunt will take you on an adventure in search for clues at TREC. Or try testing your knowledge of the Lewis and Clark Trivia contest that follows along with the film. Lucky winners of the different contests will win special prizes offered by the Nature Shop and Gallery and the Big Green Screen Theater.

The Erie Civic Music Association is brining the Glenn Miller Orchestra to town. They will perform at the Warner Theatre on Oct. 8 at 3 pm. Tickets are $20.
The Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm Fall Festival will be held October 8-9 2005, each day from 11am-6pm. Fall Festival offers fun for the whole family.
