Erie PA News and Events for Saturday September 30, 2006
Erie County Executive Mark DiVecchio submitted his proposed 2007 budget on Friday. It doesn’t call for a tax increase but it’s $1.7 million more than anticipated revenue. The money to balance the budget would be taken from a reserve account. The reserve fund was designed to be used for emergencies. Not being able to cut expenses is not an emergency situation.
Around 1:30 pm on Friday a Erie Parking Authority Jeep hit a woman in the crosswalk at 9th and State streets. Put an extra quarter in the meters next week to pay for the medical expenses and lawsuit.

I’m a real estate agent in Erie and usually there aren’t many news worthy realty stories but you should like this one. Charlie Foht, owner of Foht Realtors in Erie, got a listing for a foreclosure. He tells the company it should be listed at $75k. That night he gets home, turns on the TV and sees the house in flames. He does all the assiciated paperwork. He tells the company the property is now worth x amount. The next day the house is set on fire again. The house is a total loss.

Former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora has returned to the gym in Erie PA as he begins his journey to winning another world title. Known as “The Pittsburgh Kid,” the undefeated Spadafora, (38-0-1, 15 KOs), began sparring this week. “Considering the two year layoff, Paul has looked spectacular in the gym,” said Spadafora’s promoter Michael Acri of Erie. “I know there has been a lot of speculation that Paul will be returning to the ring in October on the Mike Tyson card but that is not accurate. The truth is we have not established a timetable for Paul’s return to the ring yet. The whole team is in complete agreement that we will let Paul’s progress in the gym dictate when he fights next. We expect Paul to be back in the ring in November.”
