The Brewerie at Union Station is now open. If you go, send in your thoughts. I’ve heard good things about the beers available. The food is another story. It could be a matter of working about the kinks and details but “slow service” and “cold when it should have been hot” is what I’ve heard.
The US Department of Agriculture Rural Development fund has given a $17,500 grant for the formation of a wine incubator in North East, PA. In the next decade, it is hoped that 10 small wineries would be created. The prices for grapes for jelly and juice have dropped like a rock with imports coming from South America. Prices paid for wime grapes are going up.

George Balzer passed away this week at age 91. Balzer was born on Sept 1, 1915, in Erie, Pa. He was a comedy writer for 25 years for Jack Benny and won two Emmy awards for his work on “The Jack Benny Show.”

Adam Perry scored three power-play goals to lead the London Knights to a 7-3 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 5,113 at the Tullio Arena. David Meckler added a pair of goals for the Knights, who scored five goals with the man advantage. Josh Beaulieu and Robbie Drummond rounded out the goal scoring while Sam Gagne collected five assists. Sean O’Connor, Andrew Hotham and Nick Palmieri scored for the Otters. London improved to 3-0 with the win while Erie dropped to 1-2-0-1. London led 2-1 after one and 5-1 heading into the third. The Knights out shot the Otters 37-33 in the game as Ryan Ludzik started and took the loss. Ludzik allowed five goals on 20 shots and was replaced by Jeff Dawson to start the third. The rookie free agent allowed two goals on 17 shots. The three stars of the game were all from the Knights. Gagner was the first, Perry the second and Patrick Kane (two assists) the third. The Otters return to action Wednesday night at the Tullio Arena when the Kitchener Rangers present the opposition in a 7:30 pm start.
Sophomore wide receiver Craig Chase (Erie Cathedral Prep) had a game-high five catches for 76 yards for Alfred University in their 48-13 win over Norwich.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has purchased 4 properties in Erie County so anglers can have more access to Lake Erie tributaries. The land bought is by Elk Creek, 20 Mile Creek, Walnut Creek and Trout Run.
Dave Lefebre of Erie finished 8th at the Northern Stren Series competition at Lake Champlain. He cashed for $4,900.
Big plans are in place highlighting the adventures of Lewis and Clark at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) and Presque Isle State Park today. Fun activities and programs for all ages have been coordinated by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Presque Isle Partnership to provide a better understanding of what Lewis and Clark may have encountered during their adventurous days. Activities will include a Lewis and Clark Family Scavenger Hunt, Big Green Screen Trivia Contest, Campfire Songs, Arts and Crafts Programs, Camp Adventure Program and Lagoon Pontoon Boat Rides. The Sunset Cafe will have featured specials for everyone to enjoy. People can experience the National Geographic Lewis and Clark, A Great Journey West film firsthand on the 45 foot wide, 4-story high Big Green Screen to top off the weekend. Special theater packages will be offered all weekend. Test out your survival skills inside or out! The Lewis and Clark Family Scavenger Hunt will take you on an adventure in search for clues at TREC. Or try testing your knowledge of the Lewis and Clark Trivia contest that follows along with the film. Lucky winners of the different contests will win special prizes offered by the Nature Shop and Gallery and the Big Green Screen Theater.
“Dining Room” by AR Gurney will be performed at the Gannon University Schuster Theatre Thur-Sun, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 and Thur-Sat, Oct. 5-7. The Erie area seminar will be held Monday, October 2 at 8 am at the National City Community Room, 801 State Street, Erie, PA.

An exhibit of Pennsylvania artists that includes six individuals currently working in or originally from Northwestern Pennsylvania opens Friday, October 6 in the Erie Art Museum Main Floor Gallery. “Outside the Centers/On the Edge” celebrates the strength and innovation of Pennsylvania artists living and working outside the state’s major metropolitan areas. NWPA’s own Lisa Austin, Daniel Burke, David T Collins, Suzanne Farris, Amara Geffen and Robert Raczka are all featured in this exhibit. The Erie Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. Cost is $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and $2 for children under 12. The Erie Civic Music Association is brining the Glenn Miller Orchestra to town. They will perform at the Warner Theatre on Oct. 8 at 3 pm. Tickets are $20.
The Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm Fall Festival will be held October 8-9 2005, each day from 11am-6pm. Fall Festival offers fun for the whole family. Admission and parking are free but donations are encouraged benefiting the Edinboro Lions Club. They’ll have face painting, wagon ride and the mini petting zoo featuring Sierra, the friendly Bison. We will have pumpkins, squash, hay bales and corn stalks for sale for Halloween and fall decorating. Mickey’s famous pumpkin and apple pies will be for sale. thanks for your comments on the The Brewerie, It was our second day open and yes we are working out the details. The service will get better and if you get cold food send it back. I'm glad you liked the beer I hope to keep up the good work on our next batches. If you have problems please let someone know we can't fix things if we don't know ther is something wrong.
