An of campus party in Meadville of mostly Allegheny College students got a little loud and a number of police agencies arrived and broke up the party. Over 100 people wee cited for underage drinking. Hint - if you keep down the noise and have a couple of dozen people, the police won’t come.
I have someone looking for a picture of a business called Tots ‘n Teens. It was a children’s store in Erie that operated from the 1940’s through 1961. It was located on Peach between 9th and 10th Street. The old Lawrence Hotel was located across the street. Drop me a line if you have one or know where I could find a pic.
Robert E Medeksza of Millcreek Township was a finalist and finished in second place in the competition for the 2006 Loebner Prize. The Loebner Prize is an annual competition that awards prizes to the Chatterbot - a computer program designed to simulate an intelligent conversation with one or more human users via auditory or textual methods - considered the most humanlike for that year. He is a graduate of McDowell High School and is the son of Krystyna Medeksza and Ludwik Medeksza, a professor of mechanical engineering at Gannon University. Medeksza is a dual computer sciences/management information systems major at Gannon. He started the company Zabaware, Inc, which develops artificial intelligence software aimed at general computer users.
Sophomore Justin Mercier of Erie PA scored a power-play goal as the Miami University men’s ice hockey team handed the University of Windsor Lancers an 8-1 defeat in an exhibition game.
Developed by National City Bank in 2002, the Women’s Economic Development Outreach (WEDO) is a coalition of dynamic women leaders working together to bring information and focused resources that directly impact women-owned businesses and their opportunity for business expansion. Speakers will share their tips to building a successful business while getting the most from life. Start each day with a networking breakfast, end around noon, and use the time after to attend workshops or to network with speakers and attendees. The Erie area seminar will be held Monday, October 2 at 8 am at the National City Community Room, 801 State Street, Erie, PA.
Gannon University will host its annual Alumni Homecoming and Reunion Weekend Friday-Sunday, Oct 6-8. The Gannon and Villa Maria College classes of 1956, ‘66, ‘81, and ‘96 will celebrate landmark reunions. Other groups celebrating reunions include the African-American Alumni, Villa Maria Alumnae, ROTC Alumni, Honors Program Alumni, SGA Alumni, Heritage Society Alumni, Occupational Therapy Alumni, and the class of 1991. Alumni will have the opportunity to sit in on classes with current students, take trolley tours of the campus and downtown Erie, watch the Homecoming Parade, cheer the Golden Knights on against Wayne State in football, renew their marriage vows, attend mass, and have brunch with Gannon President Antoine M Garibaldi, PhD.
The East Village Opera Company will be performing at the Mercyhurst College Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center Friday, October 6 at 8 pm. An exhibit of Pennsylvania artists that includes six individuals currently working in or originally from Northwestern Pennsylvania opens Friday, October 6 in the Erie Art Museum Main Floor Gallery. “Outside the Centers/On the Edge” celebrates the strength and innovation of Pennsylvania artists living and working outside the state’s major metropolitan areas. NWPA’s own Lisa Austin, Daniel Burke, David T Collins, Suzanne Farris, Amara Geffen and Robert Raczka are all featured in this exhibit. The Erie Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. Cost is $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and $2 for children under 12. The Erie Civic Music Association is brining the Glenn Miller Orchestra to town. They will perform at the Warner Theatre on Oct. 8 at 3 pm. Tickets are $20.
The Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm Fall Festival will be held October 8-9 2005, each day from 11am-6pm. Fall Festival offers fun for the whole family. Admission and parking are free but donations are encouraged benefiting the Edinboro Lions Club. They’ll have face painting, wagon ride and the mini petting zoo featuring Sierra, the friendly Bison. We will have pumpkins, squash, hay bales and corn stalks for sale for Halloween and fall decorating. Mickey’s famous pumpkin and apple pies will be for sale. Made from local pumpkins and apples, these pies don’t stick around long. Come view all the beauty that northwestern Pennsylvania offers with a peaceful country backdrop and the majestic Bison roaming in the fields.
