Waldameer Park and Water World yesterday began installing their new ride the 140 foot tower called the X Scream. it will officially open next Spring when the park reopens for the season but Waldameer will hold a special 2 day fundraiser in November. On Nov 4 and 5, the X Scream will be open for a charge of $2.50 with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network. And in which might be the biggest news from the park in years, work has begun on an accress road so construction can begin on the Ravine Flyer II, a wooden roller coaster. The coaster will traverse Peninsula Drive (State Route 832). The ride will open in 2008.

EarthShell Corporation (OTCBB:ERTH), innovators of environmentally preferable foodservice disposables made from corn, potatoes and limestone, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Sodexho to supply EarthShell Packaging to US Sodexho accounts. Two Sodexho locations, Allegheny College and Toyota Motor Sales have placed small initial orders for EarthShell plates and bowls to gain immediate experience with the product and its notable performance.


In 1821, the first commercial natural gas was developed near Fredonia, NY. This area of the county produces more gas than it uses. Land owners, especially farmers, and companies such as Pennsylvania General Energy of Warren PA are drilling wells. PGE has nearly 800,000 acres under lease.

From 1992-95, nearly every kid in the country watched the PBS series GhostWriter. Sisters Tien Tran and Tram-Ahn Tran were two of the stars of the show. When the show was cancelled, the family moved to Erie, PA. The family has since relocated to Philly and both girls are now attending Boston College.

Rabe Environmental Systems of Erie, a HVAC, plumbing and energy management company, earned a 2006 Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence. Rabe has 1,002 days worked without a lost-time accident, and has zero recordable injuries for 2004 and 2005.

Meagan Trott of Northwest PA Collegiate Academy Charter School was one of forty-six students which have been named by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board as the winners of the 2006 Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest.

Jovon Johnson of Erie was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an insurance policy in case cornerback Deshea Townsend couldn’t play.

The Erie Cathedral Prep boys golf team won the PIAA West Regional Golf Tournament. The team will participate in next week’s state tournament at Heritage Hills Country Club in York.

The Port Farms Pumkin Farm Harvest Festival takes place through Oct 31. Hours are Mon-Fri Noon-6 pm, Sat 11-7 and Sun Noon-7. Ticket are $3 for adults, $5 for kids 3-18 with kids under 3 admitted free.

The Erie Zoo 18th annual Zoo Boo runs through October 30, 6-9 pm nightly. Admission is $4.50 for adults (ages 12 and up), $3 for kids 2-11 with children under 2 admitted free.

The Screen Visions Film Club at Penn State Behrend with the support of TheFilmChair.com will screen the independent film “Bums” Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 7:30 pm in the Reed Union Building McGarvey Commons. The screening is free and open to the public. Directed by the Toronto-based Butler Bros, “Bums” follows six friends as their relationships blur together, producing love, laughs and lethargy. “Bums” is an insightful and provacative look at life neither here nor there, on a day like any other day, when you don’t have a clue what you are doing but have all the time in the world to do it.

The Technology Council of Northwest Pa will host its Annual Membership Meeting at National City Bank in the Community Room, 801 State, on Thursday, October 19th from 3-5 pm. Enter through the 8th Street entrance. The Board of Directors will meet for 45 minutes to cover the business agenda, followed by a Current Affairs Presentation from Perry Wood, CEO. Internationally recognized autism expert Mark L Sundberg, PhD, will be visiting the Dr Gertrude Barber National Institute on Thursday and Friday, October 19 and 20, for a two-day seminar. The topic of his program is “Recent Advances in the use of Verbal Behavior for Language Assessment and Intervention for Children with Autism.” Registration fee for professionals is $275 and $100 for family members and students. The seminar is approved for Continuing Education Credits for Psychologists, Applied Behavior Analysts, Speech Language Pathologists and school personnel. Jr’s Last Laugh Comedy Club 3rd Annual Laugh Your Sash Off takes place October 19. Tickets are only $10 and Jr’s is generously donating half of the proceeds to Girl Scouts of Penn Lakes Council. Sign up now, only 300 seats are available. The entire club is reserved for Girl Scout parents, adult Girl Scouts, their family and friends. Come early for dinner and drinks, the kitchen opens at 5 pm. The headliner will perform at 7:30 pm.

“Monster Black Holes” will be the topic of the next Open House Night in Astronomy at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. Roger Knacke, professor of physics and astronomy and director of the college’s School of Science, will present this free program at 7:30 pm Friday, Oct 20, in 101 Behrend Science Building.


Jazz Erie is bring in vocalist Kevin Mahogany, with pianist Doug Bickel and bassist Chuck Bergeron: “In Celebration of Johnny Hartman—His Life, His Music” on October 20 at the East Erie Turners, 829 Parade St.. An Erie group comprising Frank Singer, piano; Tony Stefanelli, upright bass, and Mike Ohm, guitar, will play from 6:30-8 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 JazzErie members, $10 students. The Erie Runners Club are sponsoring the 2006 Presque Isle Personal Endurance Classic on Saturday October 21 at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA. The purpose of this unique event is to invite any person to run/walk a distance beyond that which he/she has previously achieved, and thus establish what will be referred to as a Personal Endurance Record. This event is designed to support and assist individuals in their endurance efforts by creating a comfortable, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Promotion of cardiovascular fitness is the prime purpose of this event. This is not a competitive race. You will be competing with yourself and your own limits and abilities, not those of others. The intent is to challenge each individual’s personal stamina by exceeding a previous distance or endurance record.


The Mercyhurst North East Office of Admissions will be holding its Fall Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Great Room of the Michele and Tom Ridge Health and Safety Building. Representatives from each of MNE’s 24 academic programs, along with admissions and financial aid counselors, will be available to provide information and answer questions for prospective students. Gannon University, Mercyhurst College and Penn State-Behrend will hold an intensive, one-day intercollegiate food drive billed “The Collegiate Golden Harvest” on October 28 from 9 am to 4 pm. All donated food will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern Pennsylvania and be distributed to 275 agencies that directly serve families in need.

Classy 100 is holding an 80’s Halloween Thriller dance at Rainbow Gardens on Saturday, October 28th from 9 ‘til 1. Memories in Motion will be playing the music, and they’ll have a costuime party. Tickets are $10 in advance ($12 at the door) and can be purchased at Quizno’s on E 38th Street, The Amish Buggy on upper Peach Street and at Classy 100’s studios at 471 Robison Road.

Celebrate Halloween at the 46th annual Holiday Festival and Spaghetti Dinner sponsored by the Dr Gertrude A Barber National Institute on Sunday, Oct 29 from 11 am - 5 pm. Kids and families will love “Barber Boo,” a celebration of free activities such as games and crafts, hay rides, and trick or treating through the Barber National Institute. Bingo, games of chance, theme basket raffles and Christmas crafts for adults. A spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings; tickets just $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12 and free for youngsters under age three. For information, call 453-7661.

“Wristcutters: A Love Story” will be shown at the Edinboro University Louis C Cole Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:30 pm. Meet and Greet with director Goran Dukic (confirmed) and actors Shannyn Sossamon (invited) and Shea Whigham (confirmed). Tickets are $5 with Edinboro students attending for free. The students of Toni and Guy in Erie, 930 Peach Street, are holding a fund raiser on November 4 from 9 am - 4:30 pm called “Healing Hands for Hunger.” This event is to raise money and donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank. For every five pounds of food you bring in you get a free five minute chair massage, also for every $5 you donate you also will receive a five minute chair massage. ALL proceeds go to the Second Harvest Food Bank. All massages will be done by students that will be supervised by their instructors.

The Goo Goo Dolls will play a concert at the Warner Theatre in Erie Tuesday December 5. Tickets are on sale now.
