Erie PA News and Events for Sunday October 29, 2006

Posted by Dennis on October 29, 2006

A Jeep driven by Maurice Bort of Erie going West on I-90 drove over median and struck another Jeep head-on which was travelling East on 90. Both drivers were killed. Traffic was tied up for nearly 3 hours. Drivers from out of town that exited the thruway trying to find a way around the accident were lost all over town. PennDOT detour signs are impossible to follow or find.

Bradley Roland Will, a 1992 graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, was killed by gunfire in the Mexican city of Oaxaca at the Santa Lucia Barricade. Urban paramilitary Priistas in plain clothes shot him. Leftist protesters have barricaded streets and occupied government buildings for five months in a bid to oust the governor. Will worked for Indymedia.org, an independent Web-based media organization and also sold video footage on a freelance basis.

Turn you clocks back. It’s my favorite day of the year - the end of daylight saving time, an extra hour of sleep.

There are still a couple of days to go in the month but real estate story in Erie for October sucks. In Erie County in October, 273 residential properties have gone on the market, 164 went sale pending and 190 have had sales close. There are now 1411 residential properties listed for sale in Erie County.
This listing made me laugh “All windows replaced, cathedral ceilings, garage with approx 2400 sq ft, 7 chickens negotiable.”

Trick or Treat hours for nearly every community in the Erie area are 6-8 pm on Haloween, October 31. Oil City held their Trick or Treat yesterday because after the 1992 murder of Shauna Howe who was was abducted as she walked home from a Girl Scout Halloween party, the town decided their celebration would always be held during safer hours.

The Thruway? Isn't that in NY? I can't help calling it that either. It is better than calling it "the 90" though.
