Erie PA News and Events for Sunday December 3, 2006
Erie City Council held a Saturday budget session and rubber stamped the budget submitted by Mayor Joe Sinnott making only one minor change of $24,000 to the $59.9 million budget. The formal vote on the budget will be held at the regular council meeting on December 20. Council made no cuts to the budget only raising a revenue projection to balance the budget. Residents of Erie will be getting a lump of coal for Christmas of a 12.14 percent increase in their property taxes. Council had a half hearted attempt to ask for concessions from the firefighters, police and teamsters unions. Didn’t work. Until council changes their mindset and makes real fundamental changes, taxes and expenses will continue to increase.
