3 pm on Tuesday, February 27, 2007. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in the State Museum Auditorium located at the corner of Third and North streets in Harrisburg. Among the agenda items for this meeting will be the swearing in of Gary A Sojka which will allow the board to vote on the opening of Presque Isle Downs. The racino will hold two days of testing of the 2,000 slot machines on Feb 24 and Feb 26 with proceeds going to the United Way of Erie County. The race track is scheduled to open on September 1. Presque Isle Downs slots parlor is located in Summit Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania at Exit 27 (Route 97) of Interstate 90. It will be open from 7 am to 4 am daily.
Unless you just landed on the planet, you have already heard the news about the Brian Wells case. Mike posted the news early Friday evening. Apparently the case has been solved and indictments are expected. The investigation has centered around Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong and William Rothstein. Wacked-out-bitch Diehl-Armstrong is serving 2 decades in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to killing her boyfriend, James Roden, in 2003.
A big thank you goes out to Rick Filippi for the information concerning the GAF plant in Erie. It sure seems everyone involved bent over backwards to keep the company in Erie but it still wasn’t enough. A blank check might not have been enough. Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge of Erie called for a nationwide broadband public safety network from a part of the spectrum in the 700 MHz band that is scheduled for auction in 2008. Communications is a major concern of public safety officials. In too many instances police can not communicate with fire departments or one police department can not talk to another police department.

It is the end of an era for Allegheny College, as legendary head swimming and diving coach Tom Erdos — a coaching veteran of 31 years with the Blue and Gold — has announced his retirement from the athletic coaching profession. Erdos’ teams have produced 256 All-Americans, seven national champions and 23 National Top-10 team finishes. He resigns from his position as aquatics director and head swimming and diving coach to delve into another one of his passions, the teaching of ballroom dance.

An encore performance will be held tonight of the Roadhouse Theatre's smash hit production of Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers.
Musicians from Mercyhurst College and Clarion University will combine forces on Sunday, Feb 18, to perform Antonin Dvorak's "Stabat Mater," a huge work for choir, soloists and orchestra that celebrates the triumph of faith and belief over despair. The "Stabat Mater" is based on a Roman Catholic hymn which dates to the 13th century and meditates on the suffering of Mary during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Its title is from the poem's first line, "Stabat mater dolorosa" - "The sorrowful mother was standing." The concert begins at 2 pm in the Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center on the Mercyhurst campus. The same musicians will repeat the "Stabat Mater" performance in Clarion on Sunday, Mar 4, at 3 pm in the Marwick-Boyd Auditorium. Admission to both performances is free and the public is cordially invited.

Zanny Minton Beddoes, The Economist's Washington-based economics editor, will speak at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Thursday, February 22. Minton Beddoes' address, "Fragile Prosperity: The Outlook for the US and World Economy," is part of the college's annual Speaker Series. It will be held at 7:30 pm in the Reed Union Building's McGarvey Commons and is free and open to the public.
Roger Knacke, professor of physics and astronomy and director of the School of Science at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will discuss "Astronomy of the Maya" at the college's next Open House Night in Astronomy. Knacke will speak at 7:30 pm on Thursday, February 22, in 101 Otto Behrend Science Building. Admission to the open house is free and his non-technical lecture is suitable for ages 8 and older.
On February 24-25, the Tom Ridge Environmental Center will be the location of the 2007 Erie Winter Carnival, a fun-filled event weekend for all ages. Highlights include professional ice carvings, carved by some of the greatest ice carvers in the world! Watch the Speed Carving Competitions or check out delicate ice-art carvings created with chain saws and fine carving tools. Amazing pieces of art right created before your eyes! Take in one of the great featured films that weekend including Everest, Lewis and Clark, or the special weekend featured film, March of the Penguins. All on the BIG Green Screen. Children can also enjoy special activities including face painting, winter craft, storytelling and a magic show. Walk through the local artist Art Show and stop into the Nature Shop and Gallery for unique shopping options and great winter gifts. Check out all the great exhibits highlighting Presque Isle State Park. And remember to grab a bite to eat with specialty carnival-type foods and other great items from the Sunset Cafe.
On Feb 25, the Brewerie at Union Station in Erie hosts the Erie Illusion women's football team Beer Fest.
The 25th annual Erie Sport and Travel Expo will be held at Family First Sports Park in Erie, Pa March 2-4. The show features fishing and hunting lodges, guides, outfitters, fishing charters and sporting goods vendors and boat and recreational vehicle dealers. General Admission $6 with children under 10 free.
Music lovers are invited to follow Road to the Isles, and take in the sights and sounds of traditional Celtic folk music and dance along the way. Road to the Isles is a Pittsburgh-based quintet of pipe, guitar, fiddle, and two dancers that will perform at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Wednesday, March 7 at 12 pm. Their presentation of Scottish and Irish music and dance is part of college's Rhythms of Life cultural series and begins at noon in the Reed Union Building's Bruno's Cafe. It is free and open to the public.
The concert band and jazz ensemble at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will play favorites "From Stage and Screen" at their annual joint spring concert. The performance will be held at 8 pm on Thursday, March 8, in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
