Spring “officially” arrives today at at 8:07 pm. The high temperature in Erie is expected to be 30 degrees.
The Erie Area Convention and Visitors Bureau yesterday hosted 150 Ohio bus tour planners.
The Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission recently closed three loans: A $200,000 SBF loan closed for TM Industrial Supply of Erie County. The loan was used to renovate and expand their building; purchase machinery and equipment; and working capital. Five jobs will be created within three years. TM Industrial designs and manufactures separators, knockout pots and gas filters. A $75,000 EDA/RLF loan closed for Micro Weld America of Erie County. The loan was used to purchase machinery and equipment. Three jobs will be created within three years. Micro Weld America performs laser welding services. A $200,000 SBF loan closed for Matrix Tool of Erie County. The loan was used to expand the facility and purchase machinery and equipment. Eight jobs will be created within three years. Matrix Tool is a full service thermoplastic injection mold building and molding company and metal Injection mold building company.
Gannon officials announced a celebration for the Gannon women’s basketball team, who won the program’s first-ever GLIAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The celebration is scheduled for 4 pm today at the Hammermill Center. The event is open to the public.

Meadowmount Trio, a frequent contributor to National Public Radio hailed as "an ensemble of seamless rapport" by The Strad magazine, will perform at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Wednesday, March 21. Meadowmount Trio appears as part of Music at Noon: The Logan Series. Its performance, which is free and open to the public, will be held at noon in the Reed Union Building's McGarvey Commons.
The Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission has been awarded a planning grant from DCED to establish a regional Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), and has contracted GSP Consulting in Pittsburgh to proceed with engaging the interest of universities, industries and service providers in the seven county area of Clarion, Venango, Lawrence, Mercer, Crawford, Forest and Warren. KIZs provide grant funds to community/university partnerships to generate job growth through tech transfer and entrepreneurship. A kick-off meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am Wednesday, March 21 at Allegheny College’s Tippie Alumni Center in Meadville. Investors, industry service providers, educational institutes and industries involved in R and D are invited to attend.
“Casablanca” will be shown Friday, March 22 at 1:30 pm and 7 pm at the Big Green Screen Theater in the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) located at the entrance to Presque Isle State Park.

All An Act Theater Productions presents “The Odd Couple” with Larry Lewis and David W Mitchell. Performances will be held at Columbus Square, 652 West 17th Street in Erie, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm March 23 through April 14 with Sunday matinee performances at 3 pm April 1 and 15 only. Tickets are $8 with student and senior tickets priced at $5.
The Classic Rock Dance, a fund raiser for the family of Erie soldier Katie Beckwith, with the Bryan Burton Band will be held on March 24 at the Millcreek American Legion, 4109 West 12th Street in Erie (next to the Airport) starting at 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for a donation of $5 per person. Katie was injured when a roadside bomb detonated beside her Humvee in Iraq. She is presently being hospitalized at Fort Knox. The benefit is to raise money for travel expenses for her family to visit her.
Think you have what it takes to sing the National Anthem at a Double-A baseball game? Well here is your chance. The Erie SeaWolves announced their National Anthem tryouts to be held Sunday, March 25 at the Millcreek Mall. Tryouts will be held on the main stage located at the center of the mall. Registration begins at 1:30 pm and tryouts begin at 2 pm. Those interested in auditioning will perform the National Anthem for a panel of judges. Auditions must be performed a capella. SeaWolves Opening Day for the 2007 season is April 5 against the Altoona Curve. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
The St Martins Center 9th annual Homeownership Expo will be held March 29 from 11:30 am - 6:30 pm at the Blasco Memorial Library. There will be information on homes, mortgage products, refinancing options, homes inspections, lead paint issues and more. Admission is free and open to everyone.
Mercyhurst College welcomes noted historian Dr Ralph Ketcham, Emeritus Professor of History, Political Science and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, who will address “Lincoln’s Union: Where it came from, and what it Meant,” on Thursday, March 29, at 8 pm in Walker Recital Hall.
