Erie PA News and Events for Monday March 26, 2007

A meeting was held on Sunday to discuss
Conneaut Lake Park. It’s been a broken record for years. Will the amusement park have the money to open? A court appointed custodian for the park has an agreement of sale to sell 3.3 acres of lakefront property to pay off debt. The $1.7 million sale proceeds will go a long way in paying off the park’s debt of about $2 million. A developer will build condos on the land. They’ve had a difficult time finding a developer to buy the park because of the debt. Now that most of the debt will be paid off will a developer come in or be scared off because of the lakefront development?
A happy 36th Independence Day to Bangladesh. Dr Syed Saad Andaleeb of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College has a beautiful, warm tribute to his native country in an article published in today’s Daily Star. On March 26, 1971, independence of Bangladesh was formally declared, leading to the Liberation War against the Pakistani occupation forces and resulting in the emergence of a sovereign state on the global map. A Fulbright Scholar, Dr Syed Saad Andaleeb is professor of marketing at Behrend.

Last week I got a call from a bankruptcy attorney in Indiana asking if I could sell a home in Erie that they needed to sell. Sure thing. I drive down to the house to check it out and see how I’m going to get in. There are a couple of people on the sidewalk a few houses away so I go ask them about the place. The one guy says “I live there.” Oh, crap. It’s his sisters place. She never told him she filed for Chapter 7 and had to sell the house. Of course he didn’t believe me and wouldn’t let me in the place. I went back down to put a for sale sign in the yard. The street was filed with fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, and everything else with a flashing light on it. The house next door was on fire. A lady died in the Tuesday fire. So nobody has been able to get in the place I’m selling and the home next door is half burned down with police tape surrounding it. In spite of these little things, there are 5 offers for the property I’m selling. Why? It has a view of the bayfront.
