Railpower Technologies (TSX: P) reported its financial results for the three and twelve month periods ended December 31, 2006. Net loss for the fourth quarter of 2006 was $5.8 million and for the year was $41.5 million. As at December 31, 2006, the Company had firm orders for 105 locomotives and three cranes. Railpower is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. Its US office is located in Erie, PA. The company manufactures hybrid yard switcher locomotives.

Donald A Lippert and Ian D Vonie were both must pay fines of $3500, perform 100 hours of community service and serve 12 months probation for a September 2006 off campus party in Meadville. Both men were Allegheny College students. Lippert and Vonie were each originally charged with 107 counts of furnishing alcohol to persons under age.
The Pennsylvania House Professional Licensure Committee will hold an informational meeting at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie PA on April 4. Committee Chairman State Rep Mike Sturla has asked the College to inform the committee on the impacts of Osteopathic Medicine and Osteopathic Medical Education in the Commonwealth. “Osteopathic medicine is an important field in health that is not as well understood as other areas,” Sturla said. “As a result, I am bringing the House Professional Licensure Committee to LECOM to learn more about it from a national leader in osteopathic medicine. LECOM is one of Pennsylvania’s rising stars in higher education.”
The State of Pennsylvania’s Authorized Trade Representatives from Australia, Canada, and South Africa will be in Erie on April 24 to meet with regional companies to discuss their export opportunities in respective markets. The RIT men’s tennis team hosted the Nazareth Golden Flyers and lost 6-3. Joe Schember (Erie Mercyhurst Prep) got wins in singles and doubles for the Tigers.
Former Edinboro University wrestler Josh Koscheck faces Diego Sanchez at UFC 69 on April 7. He was featured in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter and is 8-1 in mixed martial arts competition. In 2001, Koscheck posted a 42-0 record and won the NCAA Division I championship in the 174 pound weight class.
All An Act Theater Productions presents “The Odd Couple” with Larry Lewis and David W Mitchell. US Olympic figure skater Emily Hughes will perform at the Gliding Stars of Erie 7th annual ice show on March 31 at 7 pm at Mercyhurst College Ice Arena. Tickets are $5 advance, available by calling (814) 825-5555. Taylor Firth, a US national competitor, will also skate at the show, while Tennessee Back Porch performs. Proceeds benefit Gliding Stars, which provides assisted skating for persons challenged by disabilities.

The Jamestown NY Savings Bank Ice Arena will play host to the Buffalo Sabres Alumni, who will play a benefit hockey game against the Labatt Blue All-Stars on Sunday April 1 with the face-off scheduled for 1 pm. The Sabres Alumni will hold an free autograph session between the first and second periods of the contest. In addition, a dinner and auction with the Sabres is slated for 2:45 pm in the Veranda Room. The Catholic Studies Speaker Series at Mercyhurst College will present noted author Mary Gordon on Wednesday, April 11, for a presentation titled, “Catholicism Through a Literary Lens.” She will speak at 8:15 pm in the Walker Recital Hall. The program is free and open to the public.

Author and actor Peter Coyote will kick off the 2007 Literary Festival at Mercyhurst College with an appearance on Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 pm in the college’s Taylor Little Theatre. The festival, with a theme of “The Arts and the Counter-Culture: Then and Now,” continues April 19 with a visit by novelist Francine Prose and culminates April 25 with an event celebrating student creativity.

Alto saxophone sensation Dave Pietro will be joined by four Brazilian musicians to present a special evening of Latin jazz at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Thursday, April 19. Music at Night tickets can be purchased at the door on April 19, in advance at the Reed Union Building main desk, or online. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8.50 for adults over 60, $5 for Penn State Behrend students, and $4 for kids under 16. In addition to the Music at Night performance, Dave Pietro’s Banda Brazil will perform at noon on Wednesday, April 18, also in McGarvey Commons. Literary nonfiction writer Marilyn Abildskov will close the 2006-07 Creative Writer’s Speaker Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, with a reading on Thursday, April 19. Abildskov will read from her works beginning at 6 pm in the Smith Chapel worship space. A 4:30 pm reception for her in the Smith Chapel living room will precede the reading; both are free and open to the public.
