Erie has snow on the ground and more is expected today. Snow on Easter but we had no snow for Christmas or New Year’s.

Riverheads High School in Staunton, VA, recently received a grant from Erie Insurance to help spread the word about safe teen driving through the company’s Lookin’ Out program. Lookin’ Out has been managed successfully in high schools since 2001 and has awarded more than $200,000 in grants throughout the years to educate teen drivers. More than 19,000 high school juniors and seniors from 50 schools across Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina are participating in the program this year alone.

Fans with tickets to any of the first three games can exchange those for any remaining game during the 2007 season. The Mercyhurst men’s lacrosse team made its push for its first ever Number 1 ranking by defeating No 1 Dowling 12-4 Saturday at Tullio Field. The Lakers, who entered the contest ranked No 2 in the country, shut out the top scoring offense in Division II during the first half, and picked the win in their East Coast Conference opener.

The Lakers overcame harsh conditions on Findley Lake that included white-outs, sub-freezing temperatures and strong winds to capture wins in two of the three races at the Mercyhurst Invitational. Mercyhurst won both the Novice 4 and Varsity 8. In the Novice 4, the Lakers picked up an easy open-water victory over Cleveland State. Mercyhurst rowed a 9:13.00, compared to 10:48 for the Vikings. It was a different race, but the same story in the Varsity 8, with Mercyhurst taking out Cleveland State by over a minute and 20 seconds with a time of 8:17.84. The two wins over the Vikings avenged a loss to Cleveland State in the day’s first race, the Varsity 4. Mercyhurst finished second in a three-boat race as the Vikings turned in an 8:31.10, defeating the Lakers by 15 seconds. D’Youville was third.
