Introducing the ErieBlogs.com Job Board

I’m happy to announce the second web application here at Erieblogs.com, joining the Blog Browser. Say hello to the Job Board.

As the saying goes, Erieblogs.com loves Erie. We want people to come to Erie and stay in Erie, and to do that people need a job or an internship. The local job sites, frankly, stink. Craigslist has too much get-rich-quick and work-at-home spam and the other sites (Eriecareers.com and ErieHelpWanted.com) are merely gateways to larger, national sites with some local jobs. Getting a local job is best done by a local job board with a focus on Erie.

Employers - here’s the best part. Posting your jobs, internships and volunteer opportunities is free! Unlike newspaper classifieds, we don’t charge per word so you can be as descriptive as you like in your posts. This will help you attract great employees from around the area.

Of course, it’s a beta, and I’ll be adding features over the next day or so. I’m almost done with a search tool, which should help. I’ve also added a few sample jobs from the area to get your started. Please, go try it out, post a job or internship and let me know what you think and what you think should be added in. Email me.

I love the map feature. I hope many more jobs get listed here--it's an awesome resource.

A lot of small cities could use erieblogs.com as a template. Great idea :)

While the blog browser seems to me like nothing more than a feed roll and frames (yuck) this might have some potential.

Nice use of the google maps API, however I question how this will scale once you have 20 jobs, 50 jobs, 200 jobs...? Works well now with the 5 you have listed but if it were to boon I am not sure how the interface as I see it today will handle it.

Keep up the great work! Great feature!

Remind employers that potential canidates found thru web searches typically are high educated, more well read and more skilled.

Nick,

I have a plan for handling a large number of positions. To launch, I knew there wouldn't be very many positions, so I thought I'd add some copy there as a welcome and some basic instructions.

re: the BlogBrowser - that's exactly what it is - a feed roll. It's not fancy or terribly exciting, but does provide users with more then the 30 recent posts we put on the homepage, and we separate out the news there as well to give people even more content. Frames worked out ok - it makes it easy to update and add features to.
