Commodore Perry was tall and well-proportioned; “every inch a man” according to some who knew him. He was also capable of inspiring tremendous loyalty in those who served under him. He had one strange phobia however, he was terrified of cows. He was said to prefer slogging miles through knee-deep mud rather than face a cow.
One more cow story. President McKinley once attended the Allegheny College, but was expelled for sneaking a cow into the Bentley Bell Tower. (Ed. note: Apparently cows can go UP stairs, but have a lot more trouble with down. The folklore also suggests that McKinley’s cow needed to be brought down from the bell tower “one steak at a time.”)

I'm pretty sure that cow thing is a myth - for me, the better (and provable) "fact" is that for five years (1870-1875)female students had $6 added to their fees "to cover the extra costs incurred by the complexity of their nervous systems." ;)
