The remains of Technical Sergeant Richard R Sargent of North Girard PA (present day Lake City, PA) were returned home after 63 years. Sargent had been missing in action since his B-24 Liberator named “Here T’is” went down in New Guinea on April 16, 1944. Sargent will be buried Saturday with full military honors in Girard Cemetery.
A 1916 Type B Erie Shovel manufactured by the Ball Engine Company of Erie PA was the most popular exhibit at the 37th Annual Southeast Old Threshers’ Reunion in Denton, NC.
The Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) announced that Nathaniel J Boring was a 2007 OOIDA Scholarship Recipient. Boring is the son of OOIDA member James M Boring of Reedsville, PA. Nathaniel is enrolled at Pennsylvania State University Erie, The Behrend College, where he plans to major in political science. Nathaniel was awarded a $2,000 scholarship.

The Erie SeaWolves scored four early runs and never trailed in Tuesday night’s game against the Akron Aeros as they salvaged the final game of the series with a 5-3 victory. Eddie Bonine (8-4) went 6.1 innings for the ‘Wolves in picking up his eighth win of the year. Bonine yielded a run on seven hits, he walked one and struck out two. Roman Colon, just hours after being released from the Erie County Prison, picked up his first save of the season tossing the final two innings of the game. Colon gave up a pair of runs in the eighth but got the final three outs in the ninth to seal the win for the ‘Wolves. Tuesday night’s game was witnessed by the largest crowd of the season at Jerry Uht Park as 6,382 fans came through the turnstyles for the game. The ‘Wolves travel to Reading on Wednesday to start a three-game series with the Phillies…7:05 First Pitch. RHP Matt Righter (2-1, 2.30 ERA) tosses for the ‘Wolves against RHP Chris Rojas (2-3, 6.35 ERA).
Danny Balon of Erie, Pa, ranked 5th nationally, takes on Paul Compton of Madison, Ohio, ranked 3th nationally, in the main event as the North American Allied Fight Series enters Warren, Ohio at 6 pm on Saturday.
Nagy’s Bulls of the Glenwood League are taking part in the Royal City Baseball League’s all-star festivities in Guelph, Ontario on Saturday. They will first take on the four-time RCBL champion Squirrel Tooth Blues and then they’ll play against the RCBL all-stars. The first game is at 11 am and the second game at 3:30 pm. In between games, there will be a home run hitting contest.
Millcreek Township’s Fourth of July Parade will be held today from 9 am to noon along West 12th Street from Peninsula Drive to Geutner Ave.


The Edinboro Fireworks Committee is holding a fireworks display at dusk which should be around 9:45-10 pm. This years show will be launched from Green Point on Edinboro Lake and should be visible from all over the Edinboro area.
Mercyhurst North East will host its 15th annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration on Wednesday, July 4, starting at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will feature food and fun activities for the whole family throughout the evening, and will conclude with a fireworks display at 10 pm.
The 19th annual Panegyri Greek Festival will be held July 6- 8 at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 4376 West Lake Road. The hours are Friday, July 6, 2:30 until 11 pm, Saturday, July 7, 11 am until 11 pm, and Sunday, July 8, from 12 noon until 9 pm. Admission is FREE and there is plenty of FREE PARKING next to the Church.
Scott and Kim McClelland take the stage together this summer for the first time since 1996. The McClelland’s met 20 years ago in the summer of 1987 at the Erie Playhouse. As a way of celebrating their life in the theatre, they have created “Lovers Haters and Others.” The Roadhouse Theatre show is homage to the great love affairs written for the stage. Classic and poetic love stories will be paired with epic vicious battles between famous characters from theatrical history. “Lovers Haters and Others” runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm July 6 - August 4. Family First Sports Park is having a girls basketball camp July 9-10 for varsity and junior varsity players. Boys camp will be held July 14-15 for both teams. Cost for the camps is $90 per player residential and $50 per player for commuters. All residential players receive meals and a free Fun Center pass. Coaches stay for free. The Gem City Jazz Ensemble will present a concert on Thursday, July 12, from 7 to 8:30 pm in Erie, PA, at the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home Gazebo, 560 East 3rd Street. The 20-member jazz band will perform many arrangements, including songs from jazz greats such as Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Buddy Rich. The summer Smith Carillon Concert Series at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, begins Thursday, July 12, with a performance by Japanese carillonneur Toru Takao. The following Thursday, July 19, the featured musicians will be the duo Ana and Sara Elias, Portugese sisters who perform under the name Lvsitanvs. Tin-Shi Tam, university carillonneur at Iowa State, will close the series on Thursday, July 26. All three performances will begin at 7 pm, and are free and open to the public. Seating is on the lawn of the John M Lilley Library, so concert goers are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket. Refreshments will be served.
The Wattsburg Erie County Battle of the Bands and Music Festival will be held Friday evening July 27 and Saturday July 28 at the Erie County Fairgrounds.
The Counting Crows, Live and Collective Soul will play a concert at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA on July 31 as part of “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Triple Play Ballpark Tour.” Tickets go on sale June 2 at 10 am. Tickets can be purchased at the SeaWolves box office at Jerry Uht Park and on SeaWolves.com. Children under 12 get in FREE with each paid adult ticket holder.
The Motorcycle, Car, Boat and Truck show called the Lake Erie Classic will be held August 3-5 at Erie International Airport, Tom Ridge Field.
Representatives of the waterfowl organizations, individual sportsmen and the public are invited to attend a briefing on Friday, Aug 10, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Northwest Pennsylvania Duck Hunters Association, on the status of Atlantic Flyway waterfowl populations and proposed preliminary federal frameworks for the 2007-08 hunting seasons. The briefing will begin at 1 pm, in Room 112 of the Tom Ridge Education Center at Presque Isle State Park in Erie.
