Gannon University on Saturday, Aug 25, will begin offering its Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program in Johnstown. Classes will meet at Richland High School, 220 Highfield Ave, every other Saturday during the school year, and for two one-week sessions during the summer. The program can be completed in less than two years with continuous enrollment.
Addie Snavely has joined Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling of Greenville/Spartanburg. She has interior design and project management experience with firms in Maryland and Virginia. Snavely is a 2003 graduate of Mercyhurst College with a BS degree in interior design.
Cameron Maybin’s fifth-inning home run lifted the Erie SeaWolves over visiting Connecticut. This was Maybin’s his third homer in as many games since being promoted to Erie. Michael Hollimon went three for five with a double, a triple, three RBIs and a run. The SeaWolves are off on Monday.
The next Erie Blogger get together will be Tuesday, August 14, at 7 PM at On Deck, 1137 E 11th St, Erie PA. This is open to people who blog, people interested in blogging in the future, and anyone who just wants to hang out and enjoy a cold beer.
Titled “Local Government and the Erie Economy,” the 2007 Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE) conference will address topics relevant to Erie and its surrounding communities, including the debate about consolidating the area’s local governments and the smoking ban. The institute’s sixth annual conference will be held on August 14, in McGarvey Commons, located in the Reed Union Building at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The cost to attend this year’s conference is $149 and includes printed materials, breakfast and lunch. A reduced rate of $75 is available for nonprofit, government and economic development officials. On August 21 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Millcreek Community Hospital Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program will present a total joint replacement workshop at the LECOM campus on West Grandview Boulevard. The Fuller Hose Company of North East will sponsor the annual North East National Rib Festival at Gravel Pit Park August 24-26. Automobile shows, crafters, petting zoo, live entertainment, and plenty of food. For more details, call (814) 725-9211.
‘Winds on the Lake’, a professional wind and percussion ensemble, will present a FREE outdoor concert titled “Salute to America” at 3 pm on Sunday, Aug 26. Fittingly, the performance will take place in the gazebo of the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home, which is located on Erie’s bayfront at 560 E Third St. In the event of rain, the concert will be held inside the facility. Winds on the Lake performs under the direction of Gary Viebranz, director of instrumental ensembles at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and Matthew Inkster, director of bands at West Virginia’s West Liberty State College. In addition to patriotic favorites, “Salute to America” will include a performance of Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and a special tribute to the armed forces.
The 11th annual Erie German Heritage Festival will be held at the Shriner Club, 38th and Zuck, September 1-2.
Family First Sports Park is hosting the Challenge Cup soccer tournament September 1-2. The National Premier High School Challenge Cup will feature some of the top high school boys and girls teams in the nation. Every hotel room within 50 miles of Erie is booked that weekend.
The Northwest Regional Planning and Development Commission is sponsoring meetings with18 overseas trade representatives September 12-13 in Erie. One-on-one appointments on September 13 will run from 8 am - 11:30 am and 12:30 pm - 3 pm.
