Erie PA News and Events Thursday August 16, 2007
Thou shall not mess with Erie Insurance. ERIE didn’t become a $3.75 billion company by paying out claims and if they think they paid out a false claim - watch out. It doesn’t matter who you are. A federal grand jury indicted Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce on mail fraud and money laundering. Joyce received $440,000 from a 2001 car accident. he received $50,000 from State Farm Insurance and $390,000 from Erie Insurance. Joyce claimed severe injuries from the accident but they have him playing golf, in-line skating, scuba diving, riding a Harley, and getting a pilots license. Joyce has a retention vote later this year.

Erie City Council voted to meet only twice a month. During Summer they only meet twice a month but the rest of the year they meet weekly. Members are not paid but do receive health care coverage valued at about $16,000 per person a year. The less they meet, the less damage they can inflict on the citizens of the city. (note: I was wrong. Council member are paid $6000 a year and the council president gets $7500. Thanks Emma.)
